Mei Work in progress by DanielaIvanova Mei Work in progress by DanielaIvanova
Went a bit further with rendering - the first time in months that I could make time for painting. So far it looks good to me, your thoughts?

You're welcome to give me critique. I'm mainly concerned with the composition and color scheme right now.

Character belongs to Edward Cates a.k.a. Barosus   The Llama Files C 14 - A Dryad's Birthday Part 1The date of my elvish party just seems to be getting pushed back further and further, but seeing as how my old friend Elethyrion had given me the heads up that my favorable standing among the elvish community had been souring of late, I felt like I should stop by the secret village on the fae side of the nexus to try to smooth over some of the wrinkles.  It took a little persuasion, and two cases of black-market moonshine, but I think I got most of them back on board.  I also brought an official High Cabal Sanctioned Guardian approval letter as back up to prove I wasn’t trying to do anything clandestine behind their backs, as well as an official request to implement the new obfuscation charm into the ley barrier.  Once they heard from my own lips and from official HC documentation that I wasn’t trying to hide secret questionable magic on their doorstep, the elvish conclave voted almost unanimously to keep me on as Portal guardian.
However, much as I had feare
The Llama Files C 14 - A Dryad's Birthday Part 2A dogwood’s lifespan is roughly the same as human’s, so by this autumn day, when I was mechanically working my way through the woods in exhaustion after the elvish business, she was just approaching her teen years, or perhaps I should say the “flower of her young adulthood”, which seems more appropriate for a sentient plant being.  The last time I had stopped by to visit was earlier in the year before Selena had arrived.  As I approached the familiar grove of laurels that protected her secret glade, I could feel the potent elvish wards that serve to make any wanderer passing through consider that thicket far too much hassle to be worth any sense of exploration they might be feeling.  Of course anyone who knows the charm binding the laurels can easily bypass it, but at least she was more protected from human passersby.  I trudged down the now familiar route to the stream which was gurgling merrily down the hillside as usual, anticipating the p

Goodness, this is simply stunning Daniela! I love the colors, the setting and backgroung, the design and execution of the elf girl, how you did her facial features especially her eyes, how she swings, so beautifully done already!

This is already absolutely beautifulLove, I loved the facial expression, and attention is given to the small nuances of color Nod , in the parts that are already ahead of the process.
I do not know it would be correct to give critique, I'd rather think of giving little tips.
..so sorry if this will sound academically annoyingSweating a little... so to still be interesting I hope you read with the accent of an English lord using a monocle... The brachioradialis muscle together with extensor carpi radialis longus always follow the thumb, as she is a lean girl the difference in the arm shape will be a bit different in the forearm, and in the "bend of the arm part", of course assuming her thumb is out when she grabs the tree, since this part is not readyMeow :3 if you intend to change the grip of the hand ignore my comment Wink/Razz. (Also, the part of the elbow to the wrist tends to be longer than the deltoid elbow part).

It would also be interesting to raise the green detail in her hips, to pass on the idea that the hip bones are higher and soon the femur connection gain space, will follow better with the already made composition of the leg.
about composition .. this is not my best, I'd rather not say anything than give a silly tip. I would only advise a little experimentation with blues in the background to create a deep (royal blue I think), this will make the girl warmer, in the colors that you have already put on her.

I hope this helps in some way, even to see other possibilities in your painting. As it is now, is already a very good piece, the color patterns are already very stable and the composition is very beautiful, you have a softness of its own and deals with the themes in a very beautiful way, I can not wait to see ready.La la la la

(by the way, I'm not that smart, I checked the names of the muscles in a medical anatomy book that I have :D (Big Grin))

Thank you so much for such an awesome critique! You definitely have a point with your anatomical observations. I still struggle quite a bit with anatomy and sometimes overlook stuff so it's incredibly helpful.
I agree about the composition, in fact I was on the fence about changing the whole thing from scratch but the prospect of scrapping it at such a stage just felt like way too much work. I will just try to do better next time. But if you have any specific thoughts about the composition here, I'd love to hear them even if they can't be applied so late in the process, I could use them in the next piece.
Thank you once again, it's awesome to receive a critique from an artist of your level

I am very happy to know that my comment was helpfulI am a dummy! It's an honor to help you, Danny.

About composition, there is a little hint "if it works small it works great"
make several compositions in a very small size in simple blocks of gray can help achieve a good composition fast, if it looks interesting small will be interesting big Nod

Oh yeah thumbnail painting. I'm still struggling to get the hang of it. It seems to be an indispensable tool but isn't at all intuitive. I'd have never thought of it on my own had I not seen it in tutorials.

On the thumbnails, I think really lack "access tutorials", the ones that exist have been geared towards the more advanced levels.:| (Blank Stare)

The only thing I'd have to say is it may be better with some warmer colors, especially on her face and her dress, but that's just a personnal preference.

Can't wait to see it finished! La la la la

I think she looks great as it is, the eyes are nice as one of those details that make you zoom in to appreciate completely. I love pictures that are worth zooming in (provably because mine just turn into a blurry mess).

looks great already! <3 both composition and color scheme seem fine to me! I really like the small, vivid blue droplets of water (at least I think it's water?) below her foot - I think my only advice would be to make them a bit bigger, or add some more of them :) cause I think they would stand out nicely and make a great contrast with the rest of the painting if they were more visible c: good luck with finishing the work, cannot wait to see the finishedl painting! <3
