On arrival to Old Warden a week last Saturday, a Vans RV-7 was in the circuit, which proceeded to land and taxi in. On inspection, I realised that this was G-TRVR and was in fact the aircraft's very first flight. This kit built aircraft was started by the late Trevor Roche, a Shuttleworth pilot who sadly died in 2010 after suffering an accident in the Shuttleworth Collection's de Havilland DH.53 Hummingbird. After his death the collection took on the project and aimed to complete it in memory of their fallen friend and colleague. Now complete, I believe they want to use it to encourage a new generation to take to the sky and pursue a career in aviation, a fine tribute to a fine pilot that was taken far too soon. On top of this, I have heard through the grapevine that the Hummingbird is also well on it's way to becoming airworthy once more too.
