Cirrus for the clouds. Fitting.

Cirrus is the name of a series of aero engines that were built by the Aircraft Disposal Company and later Cirrus Aero-Engines Ltd. This Desoutter I is powered by a Cirrus-Hermes II engine.

You might have seen images of mine before of the Shuttleworth Collection's pair of de Havilland DH.60 Moths. One being a Hermes Moth, and the other a Cirrus Moth, the name prefix referred to the engine. These engines were designed by a man called Frank Halford, who later collaborated with Geoffrey de Havilland to create the improved de Havilland Gypsy engine and of course this created the much better known "Gypsy Moth" aircraft. Later this engine evolved to become the Gypsy Major, which went on to power a great many aircraft of the 1930s and 40s such as the Tiger Moth, Dragon Rapide etc.
