Nagra IV-S by dangeruss Nagra IV-S by dangeruss
NAGRA IV-S Portable Stereo Tape Recorder - probably the most successful and long lived portable professional tape recorder ever made.

The 'Nagra' was a legend in it's own lifetime, and remains an object lesson in quality of engineering together with remarkably simple and unpretentious functionality. Beautifully made and until just a few years ago just about every film and television program produced had its sound recorded on one of these impeccable machines.

These remarkable recorders were invented by the Polish audio designer, Stephan Kudelski, and has been manufactured at the Kudelski/Nagra factory in Cheseaux, Switzerland since the early 1960s.

AutoCAD - 3D Studio MAX - V-ray - Photoshop

Inspired by a well known vector illustration by Yukio Miyamoto.

Dear dangeruss,
All of your works are great.

Thank you for introducing my Adobe Illustrator work.
yukiomiyamoto.web.fc2.com/mech…
I used it for sample data in my book published in 2005.

This is the same subject I created in 3D LOL.
www.deviantart.com/yukiomiyamo…

There were a few places where your model was different from the actual one. The head is curved along the flow of tape. So the head protection cover must be curved. The switch on the red volume is also curved.

Thank you!

Your 3D work is very nice too - You may have had better references than I found to spot those details that I didn't see (or notice). Thanks for your kind comments and careful critique!

Excellent job, the quality of the vector matches the quality of the real machine.

It's a 3D model and rendering - not a vector

I wasn't quite sure what to call it, so I said Vector. I should have figured that it was a 3D model.

3D S Max is an awesome program but I still cant believe you started this in AutoCad!!!!! I mean im an engineering student and I absolutely HATE AutoCad 3D!!!! I would much rather just do 2d drawings in AutoCad and then switch over to Inventor! Still does this mean you actually took realistic measurements of this wonderful device or were you just guessing? Either way you are a true master!

I found several photos shot on orthographic planes that help in establishing the proper proportions. The majority of details were created by-eye. Inventor rocks too. I use it at work, but I don't have a personal license.

Wow, I haven;t seen one of these since I worked in a couple of bad indie movies in TO. This machine was way too good for the productions I was in. Too bad. It seriously deserves better. They're great tape recorders.

Damn, the first 30 seconds I watched at it, I thought "If I were a DJ I would like to have one of them as well!". Then I noticed that the background was completely white and then I thought, that it could possibly be a very detailed render.

You've made a very good one! Such details in renders are getting rare nowadays.
