Sean Gunnery was an assistant arms dealer working for future Desolator soldiers Beverly Bombshell and Warren Warhead. When he was betrayed by his mentors in a deal went bad and left for dead before he was recovered in a local hospital by Cindy Comlink, a medical worker who soon became his friend. He was soon arrested by the local authorities, he was forced to be recruited to the Androidian Military to avoid a long prison term. After civil war broke out, Sean was soon recruited to the Reactor resistance force as their main heavy weapons man moments before they departed Androidia to Earth, where they live in hiding for twenty years under the protection of the private army of respected and renowned cybernetics expert Dr. Benton O'Connell. When Sean and Cindy intercepted a coded Desolator transmission uncovering a plot to kidnap Dr. O'Connell's son Eric for exchanging his life for the surrender of the Reactors, they know that if they were to come out of hiding, their race will be exterminated. Taking no risk and granted permission by O'Connell, the two cyborg warriors fly off and intercept a strike team sent to snatch Eric. When they finally found Eric at his high school, Sean and Cindy were ambushed by the would-be extortionists and a battle ensued, resulting in a stray plasma beam hitting the school's main building's second story walls which were directly above Eric and his girlfriend Janice Saunders to collapse, burying its' two victims. Sean and Cindy frantically rescued Eric and Janice and sent them to a nearby hospital. Knowing that the only way to save their dying bodies, Dr. O'Connell performed a desperate surgery transferring Eric and Janice's brains and spinal cords into spare Reactor cyborg shells, transforming them into Reactor warriors Atom Smash and Phoenix Crash. Grateful for Sean saving his life, Atom became best friends with him, and they are now trusted comrades in their continued war against the Desolators.

Sean is a over-tempered, trigger-happy hothead, fueled by his instinct to survive, pure adrenaline and a knack for the rush of battle. He is sometimes going straight into a fight without using his head first, leading to heated arguments with him, Atom and Phoenix. When not in combat, Sean's happy-go-lucky attitude makes for a necessary moral booster, especially towards his battle-weary comrades. He also acts like a big brother to Atom, comforting him in troubling times. He hopes for a day when peace is at hand and he would give up fighting forever, but it is easier said than done, and Sean is determined to keep fighting until the war is over, or he dies in combat. His favorite hobby is extreme skateboarding. Since he is a Reactor like his comrades, his only source for food is raw energy.

Like his race, Sean possesses an arsenal of hi-tech weapons, powers and abilities, including supersonic flight, super speed, enhanced strength and reflexes, the ability to survive space and underwater without the aid of breathing and protective equipment, invulnerability to conventional Earth weapons (but not to Desolator/Reactor munitions), hand repulsors that fire a wide range of beam projectiles and projected shields used for offensive and defensive purposes, and other hidden weapons like wrist missile launchers and robotic hands that can transform into grappling hooks and concealed beam swords and axes. His integrated visor is equipped with heads-up displaying, computer-access comlink and thermal and infra-red night vision capabilities. His cybernetic body can be upgraded with several hi-tech weapons attachments including heavy missile launchers and heavy arm-wrist pulse cannons. Other additional equipment such as rocket boots and backpacks gives him supersonic flight essential for air-to-air combat. His preferred weapons in combat are light and heavy handheld weapons link proton automatic rifles, heavy plasma cannons and multiple anti-tank rocket launchers; his main combat weapon is an automatic plasma rifle capable of rapid fire for close-quarters combat and charged shot for artillery purposes; the rifle is fitted with an over/under pump-action proton torpedo launcher for extra firepower. He is an expert in Reactor-issue hand-to-hand combat and is also and expert with dual-bladed laser spears and nun chunk-style weapons. He is also fully trained in demolitions and guerilla warfare.
