Description
Triva: as of two weeks ago, Dan Schkade operates out of Portland, Oregon.
Driving around Portland's neighbor city Vancouver, I found a vintage soda shop/small music venue name of POP CULTURE, which won my heart with its all-ages quirkiness and the fact that it has a hot dog called "the Captain Marvel" (ketchup, mustard, and of course, cheddar cheese). I got to talking with the owner, a big comics fan, and the idea of me designing a superheroic mascot for the shop came out. Shazam meets rock music was his basic idea, which I fleshed out into a wee little universe. Captain Marvel has to have his family, right?
This was the work of four hours.
It's possible nothing will come of this, but if nothing else, it's been a fun way to eek myself into the community. That's the thing about comics -- It's not an especially social activity, unless you force it to be. With prejudice.
