Dells are good shit, especially their XPS line. The two Inspirons I've had have been disappointing or underwhelming though.

Really? Me and my brother's dells turned out horrible. I like my compaq. My last compaq lasted me awhile while my dell didn't even last a full year

Do you know which line (xps, inspiron) it was? I got an Inspiron from them one time that was a real lemon, so I'm not surprised. When it comes down to it it's the components that make a computer, and quality can range widely even within a product line. I've seen Compaqs, HPs, Asus and Dells that were terrible, I've seen/heard of each doing awesome as well. These days, if you're not building it yourself, it seems more reliable to go after builds with consistent product reviews rather than a brand you prefer.

I'm not particularly an Apple fan, but the amount of vetting and time they put into their yearly releases shows with the consistency of their product. It's simple, and cookie cutter, and it works. I love the diversity and innovation of PCs, but that kind of goes hand in hand with trial and error. It's really nice when you get a build that does you right, no matter what brand it is. :>

I forgot which line it was by now. I totally agree with you though. When buying computers I've never really looked at the brand but really was looking for aspects that I wanted in my computer. :}
