The Third Dimension : Volume 33
Featuring deviations submitted February of 2011
The Third Dimension attempts to shine light on some of the amazing 3D artwork that gets submitted to deviantART. This monthly news article serves as a platform to promote 3D deviations that may have otherwise been lost in the sea of digital art submissions. These selections are based on my opinion of what constitutes originality, high quality, and/or uniqueness in 3D artwork.
Enjoy.

Tasmanian tiger
The thylacine, now sadly extinct, was the largest known carnivorous marsupial mammal, evolving about 4 million years ago.
The last captive and known thylacine died on 7 September 1936. in Hobart Zoo, Tasmania, where it lived for three years.
It is believed to have died as the result of neglect.
This extinct animal is commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger because of its striped lower back, or the Tasmanian wolf because of its canid-like characteristics.
It was native to continental Tasmania, New Guinea, and the Australian mainland.
I created this thylacine model with the help and advisory from Gondwana Studios and Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.
This is one of in the series of illustrations created with the thylacine depcited in the environment.
Created with the help of Hair Farm, Quixel Megascans assets and Corona renderer.

Couple closeups and detail crops can be seen here:  www.artstation.com/artwork/6aw…

Deinocheirus family
Deinocheirus is a genus of large ornithomimosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous around 70 million years ago, first discovered in the Nemegt Formation of Mongolia.
The largest specimen was estimated at 11 m (36 ft) long, and weighing 6.4 t (7.1 short tons).
Though it was a bulky animal, it had many hollow bones which saved weight.
The arms were among the largest of any bipedal dinosaur at 2.4 m (7.9 ft) long, with large, blunt claws on its three-fingered hands.
Illustration created for book project by Mike Kelly, "Super Predator: The World Of Tyrannosaurus rex".

The Real Ninja Turtle, Err, Tortoise
Real ninja turtle. It's real, this is not a joke. #pokerface
Tortoise model Sculpted in Zbrush, rendered in 3DS Max, Corona renderer.

The turtle is actually tortoise, more specifically, Hermann's tortoise.
I built this 3d model in Zbrush. Everything is hand sculpted and hand painted, meaning I wasn't using any phototextures or scanned alpha brushes in the process.

Tortoise model is available on my gumroad page.
I don't want to post links but if anyone is interested, google damir g martin and gumroad.

Hermann's tortoise
This is a tortoise model I built in Zbrush.
Had fun creating it. Details are hand sculpted, so is the color, polypainted in Zbrush, with no photographic texturing at all.
The goal was to create realistic appearance of Hermann's tortoise..
This model is available on my gumroad page in couple of variations.
It's up there on a limited number of sales.

If you'd like to see more renders with the tortoise, head over here:

Couple months ago I decided I want to improve my skills regarding rendering, environments and photogrammetry assets. I decided I want to put 3ds Max MR behind me and try something new. That's where Corona renderer comes in.
I started getting nice results after only one or two hours in it. I love it. Then I dived into Megascans and realized the potential photo scanned assets and pbr materials have.
On the link bellow you can see some test renders.

Your dinosaurs are so life-like. What program do you use to sculpt them? What do you use to render? Your art is amazing and beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
