I used a syringe to inject corn syrup into a lavender flower so she'd slow down and let me get close.

Tech specs: Canon 40D (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@ 3x) + an MT-24EX macro twin flash (-1 FEC).

tricks of the trade eh? cornsyrup. The effect is marvellous. Detailed, focused and fairly scary looking. Brilliant shot!

Oh my eyes! Looks scary, is it a wasp or bee?

It's a honeybee.

Oh, I see. :) Why they look so scary bu close shot...

Lots of tension in that shot -she wants to feed on the syrup that I put in the flower, but at the same time she also wants to avoid me...

Is the red color from the syrup or part of the bee? It's intriguing to see this up close!
dalantech's avatar
The red is the bee's proboscis -like a drinking straw ;)
