Butterfly in Lavender II

Technique: My sister in law's Lavender is loaded with all sorts of creatures. Unfortunately I didn't get to get to her place in the mountains above Itri, Italy until about 10:00 AM and the light wasn't ideal. So I shot with the sun in front of me to back light the subject and hopefully get a break in the contrast.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F8, 1/1000, ISO 800 with highlight tone priority) + a Canon 100-400mm F4-F5.6 L II with IS enabled. Natural light with the subject back lit. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.

Thanks :)  Happy with the result, especially since it's been at least a year since I've done anything with that lens and natural light.

lately I've been shooting a butterfly which was... chasing Me! :giggle:
It kept sitting on my legs and hands xD  and I have no idea why but it really liked 'to lick' my skin :D :D
guess that I must have a lot of pollen on myself since I was walking in high grass...
is that possible? or was it just one of these btterfly 'perverts'... xD
I'll look for these shots

Probably needed the salt from your sweat.

right :D I didn't think of that :D
but it's a bit strange..
I mean, I can understand that my hands may be sweating in the inside,
but my calf? :O

Normally is an insect is "licking" you they're looking for something that's on your skin, and it's usually salt or some other mineral in your sweat.

I'll remember not to use any cosmetics when I plan going outdoors shooting in nature :giggle:
they will sit all over me! :giggle:
Thank You for the information btw,
I never thought that insects would seek minerals on my skin :D

Lavender creates beautifull bokeh and scene just like the blue of thistles. It complements the color of so many insects.

I wish I had more time to shoot at my Sister in law's place, so many butterflies and bees in that Lavender!

Yes it's a lovely place, not many people go there so it's peaceful and quit. That little youtube reminded me not to forget my filters :-)

This is amazing. It is so clear and detailed. It looks as if it could just fly off the screen .
