I am a single mother—single for 16+ years. Autistic, ADHD, living with Hashimoto's and other health conditions. I am also a full-time caregiver to a disabled child. It is not easy.
I didn't choose to be alone; I chose to be whole. I still hope, some days, that I might meet someone who truly sees me. But I won't trade my safety, my sanity, or my self-worth for company. I accept what is, I rise, and I keep living. Until then, I walk forward.
I breathe. I sleep. I eat. I drink. I marvel at the intricacies of life and kneel in awe of its splendor.
I've been writing since I was a very young child. I started drawing before I started school. My first published poem came at age 7, when I won $500 in a school contest. My aunt inspired me through storytelling and books—so many books.
I entered writing and drawing contests whenever I could until middle school. Then life handed me things so heavy that I lost all desire to create. I stopped creating for years—life broke something in me, and I wasn't sure I'd find it again. But I found my way back. I chose my true self again, day by day, until the desire returned.
I was raised by wolves. That's what I say. Much kinder than the truth. I am alone in this world, save for those few travelers who find themselves beside me from time to time.
I don't hate it. But I sometimes wonder what it might be like to have a loving family, a caring husband, adoring parents. I use my life as a backdrop for the stories I tell. Fact and fiction blend into a fine and glorious stage.
I hope to encourage, inspire, connect, and uplift. Those who have—to appreciate. Those who do not—to take comfort. Together, we dignify one another.
