Katia Voss: Memory Loop.

Morning never really arrives in her sector — it just fades in through a layer of smog and pixels. Katia lies half-awake and half-naked, one arm of steel and carbon resting heavy against the pillow, the other buried under the sheets.

The city hums through the window like a sleeping beast, its skyline blurred by rain and static. On the desk, three old monitors flicker out-of-sync, each replaying the same thirty seconds of an advertisement she once starred in — before she replaced more of herself.

The neural ports are syncing to a loop she doesn’t remember starting. She breathes in the smell of solder and burnt coffee, the aftertaste of a night spent trying to feel human again. Every sound — the electric buzz, the slow drip of water, the faint clatter of a train — merges into one long note, a mechanical heartbeat.

She’s not resting. She’s defragmenting.

“The body updates itself,” she murmurs, “the soul just waits for the patch.”
