By daylight she’s a cable-runner, crawling through the humming spine of Sector 9 restoring power to people who don’t even know she exists. But after shutdown hours, when the megablock falls into its red-alert glow and the lifts stop working, Kara becomes something the slum knows by whispers: The Breakline Ghost.

A shadow who moves through the maintenance corridors hunting whoever disrupts the undercity’s fragile life-support systems.

Tonight, the slum grid has flatlined. Someone severed the dream-feed, and the addicts are already twitching in withdrawal.

Kara moves through a forgotten utilities shaft, the rusted walls sweating condensation, cables snaking under her feet. A dying CRT monitor flickers behind her, its static glow sliding across her skin as she leans forward, every muscle drawn tight.

Her breath slows.

She eliminates them.
