So I know the journal updates have been a bit inconsistent lately but I’ve had a lot to get done.

Starting next week, I’m hoping to start some workshop activities. I don’t know how often they’ll run, but hopefully they’re be pretty regular and create some activity between writers in the dA lit community :D

I’m also pretty happy because Toby has been brought out of his coma and seemed to be doing pretty well when I saw him – although he was very disorientated and kept saying strange things… it was funny, to be honest!

So, now I have some  FEATURES. Here we have the winners of #Love-Literature’s competition, here:

Lose ControlOh oh I loved the way the lights
Glowed on the water
We just had the best day
And when the night came
We sat on the dock in the harbor
And once your hand touched mine
I knew it was all over
I realized I wanted you
To hold my hand for the rest of my life
So baby just pull me a little closer
C’mon tonight we’re gonna let loose
Forget all the times that you’ve been abused
Take my hand in yours and give me a kiss
For all those moments that we’ve missed
Let’s do something stupid and memorable
Tonight let’s lose control
Oh oh I loved the way you danced with me
When we were young and crazy
And just nineteen
And I felt so close to you
When you winked at me
I dropped everything
Cause it was all over
I knew I wanted you
To be mine for the rest of my life
And we’re getting so much closer
C’mon tonight we’re gonna let loose
Forget all the times that you’ve been abused
Take my hand in yours and give me a kiss

Favourites

Here’s some of my favourites for this week:

Pearls in WintertimeGrandma gave her pearls to the eldest, but you didn't need oysters when you had the world;  when the forest greeted you as family, and your frolics left foot-printed poetry in the dirt.  You were always more interested in giving, anyway, so that even when the twigs tore your hair, you made a blessing of it; passing down some pearls of your own.
a gift to nature
becomes one with the winter;
soon to be melted,
but not forgotten–
nor remembered.

Et tu, MagistraKate was just grabbing a coffee in the school staff room when she was approached by Judy, the headmistress.
"I liked the display you put up in your classroom, Jane," said Judy. "Those kids put some real effort into that work and it shows."
"Thanks a lot, Judy," replied Kate.
"Um, I know this might sound awkward, Kate, but I have noticed that when your class take their shoes off in the gym for the assembly, you keep yours on," said Judy, looking slightly embarassed.
"Yes, I do. I always make sure the class take their shoes off before they come in the gym though," replied Kate. "I've always kept mine on. Jennifer and Helen keep their shoes on too."
Judy nodded.
"Um, yes. Well I was going to speak to Jennifer and Helen too. I just caught you first," said Judy.
"You want us to take our shoes off too?" asked Kate, making a face.
"Well, yes."
"Seriously? Is that really necessary? I mean, the kids take their shoes off in assembly, so it can't make that much difference," argued Kate.
"Yes, but

Taken BackHe scrambled across the rubble, desperate and too old for such an action. His knees stuck out from the rest of him in knotted bulbs of cartilage. There was no one to see it. Shoeless, he picked his way up what used to be stairs. Around the shattered glass in his cement world, he thought of a time when tetanus shots had concerned people. Those were different times, glowing pink-glazed in his memory. A bird sang from the rafters, and the building was too decrepit to even return an echo. A frame hung on the wall, intact, and his heart remembered itself, then again forgot when he saw its canvas cupping stale rain. It jittered when the frog hopped from it’s refuge onto the floor. The tiny suckers of its toes dangled in the air with the arc of its jump, then reached impact with practiced lack of grace. The miniscule squelch of damp on damp carpet was announced with a chirp. He eyed it in the moss spreading on the carpet.
“This is the second floor.” he said to no one. It was
News"Eighty three dead, eight wounded when a unit of urban centre was exposed to Magical Destruction. Suspects have been taken in, two of wood elf origins and one local elf from the lower levels of the City. All suspects are among the injured. Citizens are advised to stay in their homes."
The bulletin was slipped under all the doors in the Uppers. Pictured on it was his lover. Gone.
***
He walked in because he saw wood-elves stinking up the mid-levels of his City. They reeked of outside magic and it made his face cave in anger. This was supposed to be somewhere free from their old fashioned Gods and ideals. Legislature wasn't enough. The magic started to ring around his fingertips before he stepped in the door. They would fight back, but he would die a hero.
***
The nurse watched the grief stricken elf walk away from the bed where his late lover lay. There was something else in his eyes, though she didn't recognize what it was. Then he walked over to the cot of another injured and the room
Untitled"I was born in a music note." she told her teacher.
"That's pretty, Lisa. But people are born from their mummies tummies."
She wrinkled her face up and let out a pipping noise.
"La! It sounded kind of like that."
"That's very imaginative. What else is in this story?"
She didn't think it was. Imagination had nothing to do with it; she remembered the salt-smell of the wind in her old home.
"The music note was an aquamarine egg," she said, "that was laid by a lady of the sea, with the face of a fish. She was my first mother, and she taught me how to sing to the water, and in exchange the water would let me live under it for as long as it pleased me. When I was old enough, she brought me to my father- the sun bird. He was above the water and he taught me to sing to the sky, so I may go up to greet it. He told me to speak to it just so, and when I was old enough to speak to my grandfather- the sun- I did. he told me that to be an adult I would have to sing the world to sleep. It was too bea

:thumb366621861: :thumb337291590: The Reflection"When the gods return from the ends of the fasting sky, they'll stand in the rain and knock and knock." The line falls from Phora Bidden's lips with the heft of a habit.  A mantra from his childhood, the words had acted as a lullaby, warding off the nightmares and dream demons.  Chuckling at the memories, he hops from the truck with a box of bedding in his arms.  Tossing it to the ground, Phora licks his lips.  His forked tongue slips across the skin like a whisper.  As soon as the packing's done, he intends to find a lake to slip into.  It's hot; the air is drying him to a crisp.  He needs the slide of water across his scales.  Phora shakes his head, grabs another box from the truck, and gazes down the street.  Drooping potted plants wave from his neighbors' porches, their leaves a sick, spotted gray.  The pamphlet his last therapist gave him hadn't been kidding; he's been here one day,

Hatchlings (WIP)On a particularly humid August morning, Naomi Upton rose with the sun to prepare a perfect breakfast.  The kitchen table—the family never ate in the dining room unless they had guests—was decorated with a simple peach tablecloth and was set with wooden plates with white linen napkins.  The scent of fresh zucchini bread permeated the air, and bowls filled with grapefruits, apples and oranges added color and life to the spread.  Naomi smiled as she set the butter tray down and watered the African violets that sat on the table as a centerpiece.
Having two boys entering grades seven and five, Naomi had memorized the first-day-of-school routine years ago: get up early to bake the bread so that it would be out of the oven by the time Sean and James came in a whirlwind down the stairs, pack two brown paper bags with sandwiches—one ham and Swiss and one bologna with mustard squeezed in the shape of a smiley face—for the boys to take to school f

Thanks for the great feature! Also, I don't know who Toby is, but it's good to hear he's not in a coma anymore. :)
