The Horror

Lily in panic mode. Painting may also look like I panicked and just drew incoherent shapes on the canvas, but it's actually somewhat planned out. There's even a pencil study that preceded it. On the other hand, there is still a fair portion of the painting that's just me being silly.

I normally don't like abstracted styles, but this piece just keeps making me chuckle. :3

I love how you discover and try new art styles. It's like I'm going trough your journey as well, looking at these. Well done, once again!

I appreciate abstract art very much. There could have been a smoother transition of the line at Lily's hair on her head in my opinion. It looks a bit inconsistent this place. A few corners could get some more attention in order to remove some blurriness.

In the show we know that Lily can be easily frightened and yells her famous "The horror!". When comparing the title to the image itself it doesn't give me the impression that she is really frightened. In fact the small and light dent in form of an arc makes her smiling. Also the colours look too friendly and warm that don't match with your intention in my opinion.

Overall I like your composition and linework.

Thank you for your insights, those are some good points you raised. You're probably right about the polish on some of the corners. It's a pain to get them all perfectly neat, and this time I didn't want to invest too much time in perfecting them. They'll be the first to suffer when I start cutting corners (heh).

The colour is an interesting point, and I can see how the red background can be perceived as a warm and friendly colour. Colours can be associated with many feelings, and I intended the red more as a colour that signifies panic or danger. Other considerations for the red were that I thought it would benefit the palette of the painting, and I wanted to avoid an overall dark feeling.

The smiley arc is a bit of an oversight on my part. If I'd noticed that earlier, there's a good chance I would have removed it.
