Back to my usual colour painting for a moment. Those photos, that Wilson Cruz and Anthony Rapp uploaded from the Star Trek Las Vegas Con were just perfect!
Out of all the actors at that weekend both took selfies with the persons, whose characters were my reason to be a Star Trek fan. So if anybody wants to know why I like Star Trek: Each and everyone of my 4 reasons is in this painting.
Gates McFadden's Bevery Crusher was the sole reason why I became a Star Trek fan in the early 90ies. Without her I would have watched and liked the series, but I would have never gotten into fandom (Star Trek btw is the only series that ever got me involved in fandoms of any kind, even though I appreciated watching a lot of other stuff on TV). Then came DS9 and Nana Visitor's Kira Nerys, who took me by storm and cemented my fanactivites (writing and illustrating) until 2000. After that time I lost interest (Voyager and Enterprise couldn't hold me back then) and left fandom and all activities for 14 years.
2014 Emony from the German fanfic Archive TrekNation brought me back into fandom and I started rewatching the old series. I figured that I still loved DS9 and liked ENT a lot. And then came Discovery and with it Wilson Cruz' Hugh Culber and Anthony Rapp's Paul Stamets and I was lost again. Back to fangirling, back to painting like my life was dependent on it, and back to feeling young, adventureous and so happy again.
So those selfies were just the ideal combination for me and there was no chance on earth that I wouldn't paint them.
