Nidenmo landing by Daemoria Nidenmo landing by Daemoria
A quick concept study for a civilian transport vessel. A bit of background fluff, as a typical example of the vessel lands on the prime world, Tarsen, acting capital for the trans-galactic Utopia of Mankind.

:.Tarsen FC, Orbital shuttle Nidenmo, you are clear on landing vector Zed120 Yott32:

:.Nidenmo, Tarsen FC .Copy that, final approach 300 meters off the glide now .Wonderful weather werren havin':

:.Yea, blame the xenoforming stations for that one .Someone decided to finaly increase atmospheric depth:

:.Is like soup out there FC, the floods are having trouble with it:

:.Best get used to it Nidenmo, in a cycle werren having a three kilometer increase in breathable gasses:

:.Solid Copy .Landing now:

Hey D..Your art as always is fantastic...Lemmie help you with your radio garb...

Real world ATC states who they are talking to first, then who they are then what they want...for example, Denver center would call American 101 like such..."American 101, Denver Center, contact Kansas City Center on 135 point 26."

A vector is an assigned heading. ATC does this for traffic and weather avoidance and for distance separation or putting traffic into the lineup for landing. Headings are given in compass degrees and altitude changes in thousands and hundredths. So in your example it might sound like:

ATC: Orbital Shuttle Nidenmo, Tarsen Flight Control, descend and maintain two thousand five hundred and turn left heading 120 to join the final approach course. Cleared for the RNAV approach to pad 6. Contact the tower now on 118 point 7."

Shuttle: Nindemo is cleared to join the final on 120 and call the tower now on eighteen seven, so long...........Tarsen Tower, shuttle Nidemo with you on the RNAV pad six approach."

ATC: "Nidemo, Tarsen tower, cleared to land pad six, traffic at your 2 0'clock, an ore shuttle at 3000 ft descending to one thousand one hundred ft, niner miles. Traffic has you in sight and will remain clear of your approach. Welcome home!"

Shuttle: "Nidemo cleared to land pad six...tell Loola to have our table ready at the Last Flight Pub!"

Yea, my own radio chatter is based on one ATC guy in my shop, and our own usage of radios....but i was out of the USAF for a few months at the time of posting this image (1 SOCMS EWAR Heavies). XD

I mostly tried to keep it short, for the sake of brevity. Not many people read descriptions, on this website thing.
Thanks for the correction, though!

hey, we all love your ships, but some environment paintings wouldnt hurt !! i assume vector Zed120 Yott32: is a planet?

Zed, and Yot actually just refer to 'Z' and 'Y' on a Cartesian coordinate system. The air traffic controller is giving him a landing vector to come in along.

Heh, I'll get around to drawing environments when I actually have the motivation for them. The heavy industrialized areas that this scene would require take a lot out of me, and I don't want to just upload crap. I love you guys too much for that.

yeah, i understood that you meant with "vector" a landing direction, the whole string was just too encoded. Learned something new. Im more the skyrim-player than a home world guy with sexy paralyze laser-gun. Ah! =)

And no, i meant natural environments , without technical installations. This would complete your skills and be a nice "break" pause to explore some planets, maybe add some installations later, else things get pretty hard. I remember you drew much more scenes in the past - i still like them - tho, they were all spaceship environments.

I actually did draw the planet where the Nidenmo craft lands, a while back. It never got too far, because I got my account suspended a day after posting, and I sort of lost motivation.
Tarsen 'Silver point' -thumbnail- by Daemoria

Also, I did this one too. Not a single hint of construction in sight.
Forgotten lands by Daemoria

Yea, it's a nice break to draw landscapes, but its really hard to get motivated to start these images, much less finish them.

Har har, what did you do to get a suspension ? youre strong. XD
the lost of motivation is due the fact you sketch too few, i assume. And if you do, to few from nature. Im not better. Since i got a mac i started to paint like a mad, in the believe i need no more traditional tools. Big fault!

Environments: thats it, just dig deeper. Both look interesting and i want to confirm this. Colors are off in the first one, but its too early to say something accurate. The 2nd one has good colors, but needs more air perspective and mood. Ive the same problem to not apply air perspective because i live in the mountains and the air here is most always very clear, so you see the fog-depth effect only by bad or cloudy weather conditions. In the flat-lands (you know what i mean, dont know if its the right word form) or cities the depth effect is much stronger with all that damn smoke or natural fog. Do some damn thumbnails instead to go so big, can be relaxing.

:D btw, you wrote a Kool comment on "thebrightfuture" on mar 28, 2016. Pity i cant give you a fav for it.

Excellent stuff as always - I love this very much - love the detailing, (especially the neon purple - mwah!).

The writing is excellent.

Just wish there was a backdrop to this - aside that - superb! :D

The arcs are from the non-Newtonian drive arrays. It's sort of their distinctive effect of disregarding laws of motion. v__v

Maybe some day. The fog is pretty thick on that planet now. Damn planetary engineering projects, why do you need so much atmosphere.

Yaa, i'm back! For how long...who knows. Got a Tumblr now though, so it'll be harder to take me offline. < www.daemoria.tumblr.com >

Engine wing/nacelles  in particular for this design required me to break out the 3d meshes. The perspective on them was just destroying my brain. The final result, after the paint over is worth it though.

: Welcome to Tarsen, Please stand by for customs Inspection. :

I'll echo the previous compliments.  It has a very practical look to the design.

The fact the engines are mounted high up on either side of the hull makes me think it would be fairly stable when landing, or maneuvering in gravity.

To this one I extend my highest compliment..   I want one. It will look good parked next to the Nostromo :D

Nihil sub sole novum.. "there is nothing new under the sun", or a crappy translation there of :D

Well having a similar style is fine, as long as you make it unique and your own creation :D
It captures the general feel of that universe, rugged, and industrial. Showing some wear and tear from working for a living.

By the way, using a 3d model to help with the perspective, and help visualize the final paint over seems to be working very well for you...I'd love to see art of this quality in the game Books I buy :D

Thanks, alot of the inspiration for the balance of forms came from the older science fiction movies, with their use of practical models for effects work. The Eagle Lander and Nostromo were up there amongst the references I was using when I was sifting around my image libraries for inspiration.

The Nidenmo has seen quite a bit of rough work in its days, it certainly isn't one of those fancy Needleships, with reflective Molybdenum-Gold hulls. Nope, this baby here is a rough and tough shuttle, no glitz nor glitter.

Civilian ships are not allowed to fit weapon systems. There is no need for offensive systems.

Any pirate or smuggler who is caught using modified hulls with weapon systems are harshly dealt with by the PsiComp.

Thanks! I love to draw people in to the image, and make you feel like you're part of the setting!

Heheh, but I must confess that I actually 'cheated' a bit, and used a 3d pile of blocks I threw together in Cinema4d. It makes things so much easier.
