This is what I managed to finish for the week 41 concept challenge on BrotherBaston's discord channel.
The prompt was the second week of a 2 week prompt in designing concepts for "Quironite Woodcutters". Sparing the details they are basically able to cut down elder oak trees in one swift strike of their blades. Week one was to design silhouettes or thumbnails of a character, week 2 was to take a submission from someone else and make it into a character. It was an interesting challenge.
This is about as far as I will take this one, but It was a great learning experience. The basic Idea I was playing with here was that the Quironite have a symbiotic relationship with the Elder Oak trees. This is the best I could come up with when I started breaking down the silhouette by discord user Racoon and I thought the belly looked almost like an egg or a seed:
This species of oak has a somewhat parasitic way of reproducing. The seed of the elder oak will latch on to living beings, harnessing energy from them throughout their life. In turn the seed can provide the knowledge and wisdom that its descendants have gathered over the many years. The Quironite are a race with a metabolism that can support both themselves and the oak seed without issue. When an elder oak reaches the end of its lifespan, a seed will inform its host and guide it to fell the massive tree using its vast knowledge of forging techniques and magic. The fallen tree provides resources for the Quironite, as well as seeds for the next generation.
