Description
The Fort-562M2S, occasionally known by the nickname of 'Mutant', is a compact, dual-operation variant of the Fort-560 series of shotguns, designed and manufactured by the state-owned Science Industrial Association "FORT", of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The original Fort-560 series was introduced in 2058 and were semi-automatic 12-gauge shotguns that would come to be offered with ~19" barrels (Fort-560), ~16.5" barrels (Fort-561), and ~14.1" barrels (Fort-562). The Fort-562 variant was unique in that it also lacked a buttstock from the factory, instead having a standalone pistol grip. The shotgun series received the "M-suffix" upgrade in 2085 with an internal recoil buffer, an optimized gas system, and improved furniture durability. The dual-mode operation, "2S-suffix" version of these same shotguns was introduced in 2093.
The Fort-562M2S remains in production as of 2196, although its market demand is lower than any of the other Fort-560 shotguns. It has a good reputation nonetheless, typically utilized as an offensive tool for door breaching, capable of blowing out hinges, locks, and electronics alike with the appropriate ammunition. It also sees some use with riot control duties, with the rest of the sales going towards home defence or outright combat with specialized units and equipment.

The Fort-562M2S is a compact short-barreled shotgun that can be used both as a manual pump-action as well a semi-automatic. The semi-automatic mode uses a gas piston surrounding the magazine tube. The barrel is 360mm / 14.1" in length, smoothbore, and with no choke included from the factory. Basic iron sights with a high-visibility front post insert are standard plus SARS rails on top of the receiver, and at the sides of the barrel towards the front. The gun can chamber and fire a wide variety of 70mm and 76mm 12-gauge shotgun shells. Semi-automatic operation might prove inconsistent with some loads, at which point the pump action can be used for manual cycling. Switching the mode of operation is done by depressing buttons located on both sides of the gun's foreend, allowing it to be moved forward (semi-auto) or backward (pump-action). The factory magazine tube can comfortably house three 76mm shells, or four 70mm shells, plus one in the chamber. The bolt locks open when the tube is empty and the final spent shell has been ejected. The gun can be refitted with different barrels and proper buttstocks.
