Breath of Decay

He lowered his head so low that his glowing green eye bore into the hollow skull.

He could have raised him—forced him to weep and serve once more. He chose not to.

A lipless smile curled: for him, the end is the law, and cruelty is the only truth.

He knew how to call back the soul: a breath of rot could spark motion in a dead husk, bind bone to bone, and light embers in empty sockets. Life is a tool, never a gift. The dead deserve no peace so long as their remains can still be of use.

But this one... he is unworthy even of servitude.

He does not reanimate out of mercy; he does so out of spite. And the weak are left to rot—for weakness does not even merit the grace of eternal slavery.

Он улыбнулся без губ: конец для него — закон, а жестокость — правда.

Он знал, как вернуть жизнь: дыхание тлена могло влить движение в мёртвое тело, связать кости, зажечь угли в глазницах.

Жизнь — это инструмент, не подарок.

Мёртвые не достойны покоя, пока их трупы могут служить.

Но этот — недостоин даже службы.

Он не оживляет из жалости. Он оживляет из презрения.

Но того, кто слаб, не оживляет вовсе: слабость не заслуживает даже вечной службы.
