Yeah, ok so this was a little painting I did for the new year postcards I'm about to send out, the year of the boar.
It's an image of Atalanta, the indomitable.
I don't like it very much, not because I think it's bad, but because I didn't do what I wanted to do with it, it's likely to be a sketch for another (better) painting. coulda thought more about how I framed the space.
Not enough drama/ the calydonian boar look more like the new jersey peccary or some obscure little shit. Also since I saw the jakuchu show at Tokyo Gallery in summer I've been meaning to explore extreme forms, line flattness and various tone with my painting... resolving that with dimension... and in that sense this is a failure... but failures are the planks on the bridge that span the chasm that separates brilliance from mediocrity (just made that up) and it's still bulletproof enough to make into a postcard... maybe? what you think, juli(A)n?
