I've been doing a lot more drawing for fun (as opposed to commissions) lately and I've developed quite a stack between things like Inktober and March of Robots.  I've started an Etsy shop where you can buy my pen and ink/marker originals and add them to your collection.  I'm hoping to have prints of some of my work at some point in the near future as well.

There are only a handful of pieces up so far but I'll be adding more soon.  Of course, if there's something you're interested in and you don't see it there, you can always drop me an e-mail.

For anyone who enjoyed my recent Rogue One pen and ink/screentone artwork and who loved the classic Star Wars RPG from West End Games, my friend Eric Trautmann has put together an unofficial sourcebook for the main characters.  It's available in both "clean" and "aged" versions as a free PDF download from his blog here:

Enjoy!
If anyone's interested, I'm on Instagram at @darrenmacalvert.

I tend to post more sketches and process stuff over there like the pencils/inks for the Marvel A to Z pieces I've been doing.

All Hands on Deck! has returned to Kickstarter with a new goal and incentive structure.

If you like pirates, family-friendly card games, and my artwork then be sure to check it out!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to leave a birthday message.  I took the day off and spent it sleeping and playing video games then went for dinner with a friend.  My kind of birthday. :)
If you contacted me earlier today about doing some kobold illustrations for an online store and happen to see this, please re-send your message.  I had just started reading the e-mail on my phone when my big stupid thumb accidentally swiped it into the trash and then it vanished when I tried to retrieve it.

Technology just hates me sometimes.
I've been doing custom Christmas cards for friends and family since 2004!  Time flies...

I've collected them all (plus a bonus card done for an art exchange) in chronological order in a sub-gallery here for your holiday viewing pleasure: d-mac.deviantart.com/gallery/5…

I did the artwork for a new pirate-themed card game that just launched a Kickstarter campaign (appropriately enough on "Talk Like a Pirate Day").

If you like family-friendly card games and my artwork then be sure to check it out. If they don't reach the stretch goal of having the metal coins based on my design made, I'm going to be very disappointed.

Catwoman and Joker Sketch Cards by D-MAC

I'm doing 5 sketch card commissions for people who pledge at the $45 dollar level of the Hero Happy Hour Kickstarter.  On top of a mini original piece of my art, you also get the HHH print collection and a bunch of other cool swag: www.kickstarter.com/projects/g…
Thanks to everyone who stopped by to wish me a happy birthday.  My body didn't get the memo and decided that it was a good time to come down with the flu so I spent the day in bed, reading and napping.  Not the worst way to spend a day but not exactly what I had in mind.

Things have been relatively quiet as far as posting goes but that usually means that I'm actually super busy and that's definitely been the case lately.  I'm hoping to take a bit of a break from freelancing this summer and do some fun stuff that I can actually post.  The things I've been working on will be released eventually but for now it's all top secret.
I've decided to set up a page for my work on Facebook if anyone isn't sick of me yet. ;)

www.facebook.com/dmacalvertart

I'm closing in on 100,000 pageviews and haven't done a kiriban sketch in a while so I thought I'd do one to celebrate.  Whoever sends me a screencap of the closest pageview total to 100K gets a free sketch of their choice.

Edit: Congrats to :iconlisaorise: for being the first to post the 100K screencap!  Thank you all for stopping by to check out my work.
Last year I had a poll to see what people thought I should draw first in 2012 and it was a lot of fun (even though it took me a little while to get around to the finished product).

Please vote in this year's poll below and be sure to leave a comment if you have any suggestions.

Do you like zombies?  Do you like coloring books?  Well you're in luck!  My friend Dan and I have launched a Kickstarter campaign for STAY ALIVE - NOT UNDEAD, a zombie safety and awareness coloring and activity book.

www.kickstarter.com/projects/7…

Please help spread the word and pick yourself up a copy by contributing.  There are T-shirts, stickers, and sketch covers by some amazing artists available for the higher pledge levels but you can get the basic coloring book by pledging as little as $7.
Thank you to everyone who popped by to wish me a happy birthday yesterday.  I slept in, lounged around on my balcony reading and drinking coffee, went for a bike ride, played some video games, and then had dinner with my family.  It was a good day. :)
I have two pieces up for up for grabs in the Solid Saints auction taking place this weekend with proceeds benefiting the Child's Play charity.  If you've ever wanted me to draw your RPG character or your favorite MMO toon and you like helping sick kids, now is your chance.

I have two separate auctions under the Art section: one for a character drawing of your choice where I will send the high res digital file as well as mail you the original art (either pencil or pen and ink depending on what the winning bidder chooses).  I also have an auction where I will create a custom avatar for forums/tumblr/Twitter/etc.  Something cool and unique that you can show off around the Internet.

Even if you don't bid on my art, there are a ton of amazing things being auctioned off.  Please stop by and check it out!

Well, both of the deviants I wrote about have now had their accounts shut down.  Thanks to everyone who did their part.

The second guy wasn't as blatantly evil as the first but he really, REALLY didn't seem to understand how what he was doing was wrong.  Even when it was explained to him in the simplest terms possible... repeatedly.

I thought I'd share a transcript of our conversation.  I copied/pasted it into a text file and saved it as a PDF here: www.darrencalvert.com/milleniu…

I don't think anyone can say that I didn't try...
This guy milleniummove.deviantart.com/ has generously chosen to use his gallery to create a showcase of other artists' work.  He didn't ask Bruce Timm or any of the other artists' permission to post their work but he did ask somebody on some site somewhere and they said it was okay which is practically the same thing.

Of course, even though this is explicitly spelled out in the deviantArt rules help.deviantart.com/306/ it totally doesn't apply here for some reason.  Besides, professional artists don't care that some random guy is using their work without giving them credit.

What I'm saying is nobody should report this because DalekDoctor2011 and Stranger XL said it was okay.  Just ask them if you don't believe me.

  • Reading: and weeping
  • Playing: for keeps
  • Drinking: to dull the pain
So last night I came across this deviantArt gallery geminiacal1.deviantart.com/ because the guy had faved one of my pieces and I noticed that everything in his gallery is stolen.  I left a couple of comments to that effect but now not only has he removed my comments but he has blocked me from leaving any more.

Luckily that doesn't prevent me from reporting the stolen artwork to the deviantArt moderators.  They're usually pretty good about this stuff so it should just be a matter of time before they shut him down.

I really don't understand what people get out of this.  He's taking credit for a bunch of artists' work and has even made up little stories about why he made the work and how hard it was.  It's not the first time I've seen this sort of thing.  Once I saw a guy who was even taking "requests" for what he should draw and then going out and stealing something appropriate to take credit for.

Happy New Year.  Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote in my poll.  I've been thinking I might cheat and combine the top 3 results.  Here's a little marker sketch from my notebook to tide everyone over until I have time to draw it properly:
