so all my life I was told stuff like...

eggs  are high cholesterol and bad
eating fat makes you fat  - and low fat  food  and milk is better
antioxidants are good for you and free radicals are bad
salt is bad
whole grain cereals  are better than  husked white flour  and grains are good for you
and brown  flour is better than white
grains, bread and pasta are wholesome and good
fruit juice is concentrated  fruit  and good for you
artificial spreads are healthier than full fat butter
burnout exercise  builds muscle and stamina and health better than gentler walking and occasional slot bursts  of  intense exertion

I  could go on,  for a while.   seashell extract for joint pain?  statins? muesli..   sugary "yoghurt"...  beans...  "health"  breakfast bars...

all this stuff is either lies  or exaggerations.   some of it makes you ill.
much of it is based on lazy research or the profit motive.

I  have started changing my diet and lifestyle.  my blood pressure is more normal,  I  lost lots of weight. I  have  more energy, I  have a clearer mind.  a  year into it I am completely convinced.  I  was lied to my whole life.

I  only wish I knew years ago.

Yeah, the so-called 'experts' don't really know that much or they never take into account that different bodies have different needs and so on. In my case the main lie is the one about water. I can't drink the recommended amount of water every single day without becoming sick to my stomach and severely dehydrated. If I drink a total of maybe three or four sips of spring water a day swishing it around in my mouth before swallowing the way a hiker out in the desert once told me to do to conserve water on a hike, I can remain properly hydrated even when I down six or seven 12 oz cans of Mountain Dew every day because of my stupid caffeine addiction, on top of whatever amount of Sprite knockoffs I drink a day.

But then again, I'm weird I guess... I also get sick to my stomach with Tylenol and yet have no problem at all taking straight-up uncoated aspirin.

your water needs are total water not drinking water. most is in food and you may not need to actually drink at all to achieve "recommended" levels.

but cans of sugared caffeinated drinks like that are pretty dangerous to your health! even with one a day, you may be setting yourself up for diabetes and bone problems.

I'm aware of the alleged health risks, you don't need to remind me. I dare say that the fear of what the foods might do to a person is far more dangerous than the foods themselves.

Yes that may apply to food to am extent but probably not to pop. for instance is far of cyanide more dangerous that eating it?

"for instance is far of cyanide more dangerous that eating it?"

Faulty analogy, because soda generally is not an instant killer the way cyanide is.

i don't care what anyone says; the goal is "everything in moderation", then you will end up in the place you should be; healthy and realistic.
however, being human, it's difficult for us to moderate /anything/.
so, 2 things happen in this moderation routine;
1-we aren't happy with the result of our natural selves after all the moderation.
2-we typically over-indulge in certain things, throwing the routine out the window.

my grandfather lived to be 97, with most of his faculties in tact, with minor medical conditions in the end.
he ate all kinda shit including;
moldy bread and other moldy stuff (the refrigerator was broken for 3 days before we found out),
crap that fell on the floor,
and every piece of grizzle of the world off of all the cheap beef steak that ever was.

point is, we have to be happy with ourselves and be balanced when it comes to nutrition.
i don't put anyone down if they wanna be vegan or natural or organic, but it's definitely not me.
but i honestly believe they are depriving themselves of food pleasures for no real reason.
that's like having sex only to procreate.

Mark does a good job at explaining what is good for you and why. I recommend the "primal blueprint" or "marks daily apple" to everyone.

The American food supply is poisoned. Avoid processed foods at all costs. Avoid all GMO's.

Sad isn't it... the lies never seem to end, because everyone has an agenda.
