Gorgon Girl - Tea Party by cypherx Gorgon Girl - Tea Party by cypherx
If you could preserve the ones that you love, as they are now; in the moment... despite the cost... would you? Is it not tempting sometimes to attempt to? You lose them either way though, so is it really so wrong to give yourself delusions of the life you knew whilst with them?

I feel I need to explain [some] of this painting. Firstly, gorgons aren't real creatures, please don't start to break down the science to me on how they could turn people to stone & not their clothes or things they're touching, without turning the grass, and other things... but where does it stop, really? I had to make a judgment call. I could just turn the kids to stone and not their clothes... I didn't want to.

Secondly. I treated her "gorgonism" as more of a mutant power of sorts, as opposed to the Greek mythological gorgon. Heightened states of emotion, or just prepubescent wetdreams... doesn't matter, point is, I know it won't sit well with someone. "how did she get close enough to even make friends?"

For all those others. I won't explain any meaning. It isn't my trying to be rude, I just would rather if you don't find meaning with it, great, perhaps there's none. If you do, great. I won't give my interpretation of it though.

I could have worked longer on this, but honestly, I have other projects I want to get to. If something really bothers me with it, I'll go back and fix it, but not any time soon, because I'm frankly sick of looking at it. And yeah, my attempt at a background. I'm trying to stretch myself here.

Done in the same way Damien's kiss [link] was... with photo elements (eg the bridge and stone textures) & references used . The bridge belongs to :iconmystify-stock: (thank you mucho!)
while the tree brushes I used were from :iconspiritsighs-stock:

Photoshop CS
my last painting on this old tablet of mine, I'm switching over to my 9x12 Intuos3 Wacom tablet after today.

Beautiful imagery.
The look on her face really invokes the loneliness she must feel at not being able to have other children to play with.

I've been staring at this for a few minutes, looking for the meaning in this, and you are a wonderful artist, both in artistic talent and creativity!
Everyone's position in this is so emotional, all by themselves in the secluded forest (there's a bridge behind them, I know, but that just heightens the feeling of yearning for a home (a place to belong)).
The young gorgon girl reminds me of myself, actually. Growing up, I never managed to hold onto a friend for very long, and would often turn them away with the tiniest slip-up (Asperger's, and such). At first I didn't mind being by myself, but I craved human interaction as time went on, but would just end up wandering around by myself, at school and home....

Never change.

Quite sad, really, but very beautiful, and I love the originality of this concept--not just that she's not a 'monster' exactly, but also her age and her friends....

I love it.

This is like....exactly how I've always viewed Medusa. I like the idea of a tragic character for her who is doomed to isolation due to a curse, not due to her wanting to kill people.

Somehow... The way you draw brings me back into my childhood dreams, memories, imagination... Such a twisted, beautifull, gloomy, fairy world... :)

I shall follow you here on DA! <3

This is THE piece of art that made me want to start using Photoshop when I was only 13 years old. Many years later and I still look back at it with affection and it never fails to inspire me. I love the concept and it is beautifully placed together. I hope one day to be as talented as you and inspire other nerdy teenagers.

She shows remorse. This is an innocent child that regardless of her reptillian hair. She has sympathy and inner beauty that can not be over shadowed by a curse. Even though Bubo waits, having found her, there is nothing monsterous about the girl to provoke. The only thing that seems monsterous, is the one who placed the curse which harms others and tortures the innocent girl with isolation. Perseus himself would love her, if only beholding her through a reflection. If only there were some way, some hope to break the curse on the girl and ultimatly, her playmates. What if...makes me wonder.
I wonder how many lollipops it would take to satisfy the girl Bubo is using for a perch? Did she share her ring pops with little Miss Medusa? Or, did she receive it from the hostess herself?
And, did the young Medusa and the young doctor forget, as children often do, to wear their protective goggles the way they may forget wear a rain coat when playing in the rain? The consequences of childish inattention to details have created a sadder but wiser girl. If only there were mercy and grace for their situation. What if there were? Can you imagine? How would you paint absolution?

I love it and wish I could obtain a print.

First off, FANTASTIC job! I love the emotion in this picture, and in her hair! Or rather, snakes. She seems so lonely, the poor thing! I'd have a teaparty with her if she didn't turn me to stone by lookin' at me.

She looks so sad. Maybe someone should invent a hero who will take away her stone-making abilty and become friends with her. I like it - you've got a lot of talent and its very pretty.

We love the simplicity here. That last bubble coming from the lips is splendid, it really captures the moment for us. And the Gorgon is stunning. Simply a marvelous piece all the way 'round. It seems one of our Eggs likes it as well!

Well, I first saw this about a week ago. My first thought was "SHINY!". My second thought was "BALLOONS!". Then, I got distracted. But since then, I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I had to come back and favourite. :ohnoes:

lenoresilme Featured By Owner Oct 13, 2009
Medusa is one of my favorite mythological figures, so I am naturally drawn to things of a gorgon nature. I absolutely love this, because it paints a gorgon in a different light than what you are used to seeing. Kudos to you!

Aww, I find this picture beautiful, yet at the same time depressing.

What’s a moment of life worth if you can’t share it with anyone, well without stoning them.

Cool work very well carried out.. Figures of the Gorgon have always seemed to me differently.. As the marsh cow.. rather than as Medusas:)

Her expression is perfect. She looks like she feels guilty and alone.
