Abstract and Surreal Interviews: whoatherechief
The following is the first of a series of interviews launched for Abstract and Surreal photography week in Project Educate 2008.
PukeChrist is master of the Holga, using these disposable medium format cameras as well as polaroids and other cult favorites to create raw, experimental abstract and surreal imagery that is easy to get lost and absorbed in.

Basics and Background

Todd McIvor, New Zealand, South Island.

Off and on (mostly off) from the purchase of my first camera, a 110 mickey-matic, almost 20 years ago.

Abstract and Surreal Interviews: wroth
The following is the first of a series of interviews launched for Abstract and Surreal photography week in Project Educate 2008.
wroth creates images that are the epitome of abstract photography. Textures, forms, and gradations dictate the mood of his work and create stunning non-representational art out of the real world, as re-interpreted by the camera and the artist.

Basics and Background
Name and location?
Shawn Hansen. I was born and raised in California but now live at the family ranch in the rugged mountains of western Canada.
How long have you been practicing photography?
2002 or 2001 as I recall was when I first picked up a camera, before that I don't remember ever being interested or trying photography. That was a point and shoot digi cam without manual focus or much control, I moved up to a DSLR in mid '05 when I got serious about it. It feels like a lot less time then that for some reason.

The Great Stock Lick and Stick
It's hot and erotic, it's sparkly and mushy. But most of all it's gonna be sticky! So here you have it folks, in typical Lyastri fashion of glitter and fluff and fun lovey stuff. UnicornReality shall be providing all the needed eroticness! Call it an event, call it a challenge, but most of all call it a massive show of support for our ever so valuable stock and resources community.
The Challenge
Make a stamp. Yes, you heard me, those darling little things everyone loves sticking in their journals to show off the things they love and believe in. Pick a stocker who rocks your socks and make them a stamp, hell, pick two or three or more. Is there a new stocker you want to encourage and promote? Make them a stamp. You can do it, give them a good lick and then stick them!
This one is for everyone, if you use stock, join the merriment. If you are stock, share the love with your fellow/fellette stockers. I want to see those tongues out and licking! When you've made a stamp co

Abstract and Surreal week: A New View
A New View: Abstract and Surreal Photography
The Task
Look at your artistic space in a new way and create abstract or surreal photographs, using the ABCs as guidelines if you do not normally shoot in this genre. Try to look for mundane things and make them unusual, exceptional, artistic, or otherworldly (example: create an abstract image by photographing your dog's fur in macro, create a surreal scene from your bedroom using lighting to affect the resulting photograph, etc).
The Timeline
Luckily, photography these days can be a pretty instant art. So in celebration of Abstract and Surreal week during Project Educate, A New View will only run for a week!
So get going and pull out that inspiration.
Start: Today
End: Midnight EST Saturday May 24

How to enter
Photographs must be submitted May 19 or later, and shot specifically for the contest. Sorry, this contest is only open to ph

Let Unknown Be Known
This is a new series where deviants send in a maximum of five(5) thumbs of works they feel should have more attention, regardless of the stats the works or the artists have garnered over their time here; the suggester makes his or her own definition of "unknown". Each suggester, if possible, may write a short reason of why they selected each(a few or all), length is up to the suggester. Suggesters are not limited to any gallery.
If you wish to suggest or have questions please send me a note titled "Let Unknown Be Known" or "LUBK".

Inside a pig lies a turkey
He's there, sitting in the kitchen in front of the oven - as always - a napkin around his neck, cutlery in each hand, watching the silent ballet of his wife, rhythmic as the tic-tac of the clock and the rain falling on the roof.
Suddenly the big hand joins the little one, and the strokes begin to ring throughout the kitchen. As soon as the woman hears, she stops dancing. The man tightens his hands around the cutlery and his face tenses as she opens the oven. An enormous meat dish appears and lands on the table; inside lies a giant roasted suckling pig surrounded by crispy potatoes.
He plunges the knife into the flesh, furiously cuts up a big slice and shoves it into his gaping mouth. His jaws open and close loudly over the massive slab, dropping some pieces on his swollen feet; his throat gulps down the half mashed food, shaking his flabby body.
Big Fat Turkey, that's what people call him.
It has not always been like this. When he was young and thin as a

Petit cochon
It's been a long time since I have submitted a deviation.
I still love pigs.
I called her petit cochon because I work on a bigger pig :D , (maybe I will give her a better name later)
It's a plaster casting.
First time I ever made a mold, and it's my first casting with it.

A few days from today, the history books show an entry.  An entry of mystery, and portent, as the great powers came down upon the Earth, and, in accordance with the wishes of the mighty King Kong, granted the world a boon.  That boon was you.  And lo, let it be said to all that you are to be wished a Happy Birthday upon that day, with the most excellent and amazing of cakes to partake in! :D (Big Grin) Have your cake and eat it too
