Just saw how "old" this actually is, but I just stumbled across this tutorial and thought: If I had known about this tutorial before this year's summer, I would have saved so much time (and wouldn't have wasted it by first using the wrong ratio for isometric perspective ;)). These things are good to know, even for non-pixel artists.

It's me again. :3 Since you offered help with these kinds of things I'd really like to know which game engine you think is good for isometric games. I am working on a game, that looks pretty much like ff tactics advance. I would like the fight to be much more simple than in that game. So, just the usual old ff fights with your party on one side and the enemy on the other, with no moving around, except for when someone attacks (but after attacking the character gets back where it was previously standing).
The rest should pretty much be same as in final fantasy tactics advance.
I would like the programming to be in java (for various reasons) and the game to be usable on android (and pc). I've already tried RPG Maker Ace but that's not really what I am looking for, to be honest, it gives me headaches.
Any suggestions? That'd be so helpful! I thought about using cocos2d but there are loads of tutorials for iphone and zero for android.

Hmm, do you know any good tricks for oblique projection?

you mean the construction of the houses right? It's not really hard to create, it's like the RPG perspective, but the z axis is 45°, the front plane is just frontview and the flat roof planes have also a 45° angle.
The creation of the cliffs/trees should be already covered or is something which I will cover soon.

If you have a concrete question, I can try to answer it =)

I find the font extremely annoying, but excellent job on the tutorial though.

Completely crazy stuff here. You did a fantastic job of explaining this. I never understood how to pull of isometric with anything other than plain cubes, lol. Great work!
(PSSSTTT this should so be a DD.)
