High-Bit Pixelart sprite artwork of the normal Cannon-Fodder Soldiers from the GBA Fire Emblems.
I went with 3 times the size, so it's in size with all other FE 7 / FE8 remakes I did

This time I leaned more towards the portraits of FE Echoes: Shadows of Valencia, just because I really like the artstyle of this installment of the series.

In terms of design I slightly gothic-ified the armor, and went for a late medieval spear design, but kept the fantasy Basinet helmet shape.

Is it wrong that I wished the soldier were a playable class in FE7 and 13 like it was in FE9? :p

Regardless, well done as always. :)

No, SOldiers always were cool and I always thought it's not that cool that there are units in the game you can't play as.

Thanks =)

THis was made with gimp 2.6.12 - for new people starting out with pixelart i recommend Aseprite.

It's paid, though.
For a beginner, i feel it'd be better to recommend something free; though i guess you just kind of did by saying GIMP.

A question -that you've prob been asked before-: how to get better at pixel art?

I believe it comes down to practice and filling the knowledge gap with quick research/questions, but i wonder if there is more to it.

No, the money they carge is not substantial and Aseprite is quite good and well worth te money. If you go to the movies it's more expensive and compared to Paint it's so much better.
It's pocket money.

How to get better at anything: Keep practicing it, think critically about everything you are doing, search out critique, try to identify your flaws and work on them one by one.
E.g. if you know you are not good at perspective, do tons of practice sketches where you try to work on your weakness, it's a lot of work of course to overcome your issues, but it will pay off in the long run.
Isolating issues and working on them in safe sketches, which are not meant to be masterpieces also makes it more manageable to be not good at it.

I see.

Getting the practice is the hard part for me. Guess i'll have to find a way around that first.

Appreciate it.
