the stare ... by cweeks the stare ... by cweeks
on my way with my dad up to their house in the mountains ...

we stopped at in-n-out. off the 210 somewhere. i'm usually on the phone the whole trip and the 134 turning into the 210 turning into some friggin' obscure freeway... i don't pay much attention.

it's not l.a.

i did notice this young couple. he stared at her the whole time. not in a loving way. in fact, i was hoping that my daughter never gets "that stare."

i swear ... sometimes i feel invisible. the leica is like somekind of invisible shield. maybe the fact i was projecting that his peripheral vision would not work. dunno.

she just seems so unaffected .... on the phone...

leica mp with 35/1.4 summilux at 2.0. 1/60th. ilford delta 400 (pushed +1 to 800)

where the 210 becomes an obscure freeway is where I used to live :giggle:

it's called the inland empire

lots lots of noise! you should use the CS2 reduce noise filter. If you had used a pro canon you could also use a in-camera noise reduction filter, which would be even better, but noooooo sir... you have to use leicas.. plz, leica is history. Film is history, we all know that!

And we can't see his mouth and her nose. You should use the clone tool to remove that nasty horizontal stripe.

Oh, and if you want we can suggest you a few "newbye photography tutorials". For instance, did you know that if you had used a smaller aperture (with tripod!) you wouldn't have the window out of focus?

"Serious" is relative. This is a constructive critique, so we r going to fave you.

it's a good shot.

there is something movie-like about this. maybe if the DoF was a little lower it would be more dramatic - we don't need the background people, or the logo.

but it's nice. v. leica indeed.

Ok, someone tell her to get rid of him...

sooner the better

since it's pretty clear there is only one thing he's interested in, and that anything else she wants is no good...

someone mentioned the in and out juxtaposition already, but i'd just like to add it was fuckin brilliant

she looks totally clueless, he looks like he's blaming her for it, and god how it is interesting to watch.

that line on the window blazing through the both of them is rather intense as well. excellent composition, as always!

nice.

i like how the line cuts through the least expressive
part of their faces - the nose.
he is icing her, for sure.

i hate cellphones.

i'll never own of those things.

it's cool too because that "in-n-out" sign
speaks for most relationships and
i'd wager it speaks for this one. ;)

nice one, hon. :rose:

Love the horizontal lines to it, really gets your eye moving back and forth across the photo. Nice that you got the "In N Out" backwards and basically dead-center between them, it might as well look like a setup shot, but it isn't! Yeah, there's *something* going on there between them, yikes. It's funny because she looking towards him but right through him, you can just tell. No eye contact. Nice capture! :+fav:

I know you usually post b/w and I like that, but what are the colors like on this? I only ask because these diner type places are usually nice and colorful, lots of bright tones compeating against each other...

That's a great shot. She seems so oblivious and he's shooting daggers at her :)

As a general rule, is it normally considered kosher to go taking photos of strangers? Sometimes I see people doing some cool stuff, but I don't want to invade their privacy by shooting photos of them.

I have to agree with some others, in his defense it may not be an "i'm imagining you naked" stare...it may be an "how superficial can you be, it's rude to be on a cell phone in a resturaunt/on a date" stare.
either may, it's a lovely photo, i love how you always get into the head of a subject who doesn't realise you've captured them and tell us what you believe they are thinking, it give the subject personality that otherwise may not be there. It really makes you feel the photo.

trying regressive therapy on myself ... she was perhaps talking about a party on the last call.

dunno. not sure if self-regression therapy is wise...

I can't figure out his stare. I like the shot, it makes me want to come up to him and ask him ' hey, what are you looking at? ' She seems oblivious and he seems to posses an almost lustful stare. Your photo breathes.

It's a lovely capture. She looks so bored and disillusioned and off in her own bubble gum world of brand new mobile phones and friends that wear fake sun tan lotion and drool at guys in big cars, and he looks so quietly violent and calculating and just - mean.
