Here are 30 fun facts about Windows XP. 1. During development of Windows XP, it was code named Whistler. 2. Windows XP was released to manufacturing on August 24, 2001. Then to the general public on October 25, 2001. 3. Windows XP is NT-based. Just like Windows 2000 and NT 4.0. 4. Three service packs had been released throughout it's life cycle. With SP1 being released on September 9, 2002. Then SP2 on August 25, 2004. And then SP3 on June 10, 2008. 5. It was the first Microsoft operating system to introduce Windows Product Activation to combat software piracy. 6. In Service Pack 1, you can find progman.exe (Program Manager) under the System32 folder. It was removed in Service Pack 2. 7. Four bundled 3D screensavers that originally used OpenGL were upgraded to DirectX. 8. There's a heavily stripped down version of Windows XP called Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs. Here are 15 fun facts about Windows 95. 1. It supports up to DirectX 8.0a. Meaning you can run certain 3D titles such as Jimmy Neutron vs. Jimmy Negatron. 2. You can install Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2. Although I would highly suggest you install Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 first if you want to get the Desktop Update. 3. It runs great on a Pentium II MMX CPU. But when you go to System Properties, it identifies it as a Pentium Pro. 4. When installing Plus! or Plus! for Kids, you can use 111-1111111 as the CD key. 5. It works with IDE DVD-ROM drives. But I'm not sure if there's a software that plays DVD. 6. You can install USB drivers to use flash drives if they're formatted to work on it. I believe the USB supplement was included in OSR2.1. 7. Microsoft ended support for Windows 95 on New Years Eve 2001 alongside Windows 3.1. 8. Windows 95 may fail to boot if a CPU runs greater than 2.1GHz and/or has more than 480MB of RAM. That would've been overkill. 9. Windows 95 was released
