Barry Blair Bendy Boy 1 by Curious4ever Barry Blair Bendy Boy 1 by Curious4ever
I have previously posted a series of short stories called Double Trouble about a pair of identical twins that attend a contortionist school. The stories are based on a series of illustrations done by the late Barry Blair. Here is one of the illustrations from those stories. It features young David in his school unitard doing a very complex routine.

Complex routine as well complex pose to draw. I drew contiortonism before and must say, they are really complex to do! Mr Blair did a great work on the pose and the perspective indeed.

Not only is it difficult to draw it is also difficult to describe when writing a story about it. I am almost finished with the 4th Double Trouble short story and this one has a lot of contortion going on in it.

Still one of my favorite uniforms,
Barry always did such a great job capturing it!

It is also one of my favorite uniforms. That's why I made sure that the video I sent to Barry for reference was the one that featured this uniform. I think he enjoyed it too because he used it in most of the contortion illustrations he did.

It's a total revelation to see all the bendy boys by Barry Blair! I used to have a huge gallery of his works but only about two flexible boys in it. You already showed us many more and still counting!

As a big fan of contortionists I'm absolutely speechless to see this particular piece, I had no idea that David was so advanced and talented and I'm even more surprised that Barry would actually draw this!

Really loving David's facial expression, sort of "didn't expect me to do this, huh?" Well I certainly didn't! David is my hero now :) I think I'm going to re-read Double Trouble now, specially that it has new parts since I last checked...

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed this illustration. I think I have the largest collection of Barry Blair contortion illustrations. Part of the reason for that is that I asked him to do the first one based on a YouTube link that I sent him. He did a fantastic job and he kept doing them. Whenever he was done with one he offered it to me first and I almost always bought them. That's one reason that I wrote the Double Trouble short stories because I wanted a place to showcase these amazing contortion illustrations. I enjoyed writing them and it was fun trying to develop a story around all of the illustrations. I love the characters' expressions in all of the drawings, each one says something interesting. I would love to do another story in the series but my knowledge of contortion is limited. I would probably need someone to help develop some new scenarios to place the boys in. I just love the idea that David attends a school that has its own school unitard as part of its dress code.

Oh, that's very interesting, so in fact you wrote Double Trouble after the illustrations! The whole time I thought you were a contortion fan who wrote the whole story and then commissioned Barry for illustrations. So it appears it's actually Barry who got so inspired by flexible boys that he drew a series of contortionist characters and then you liked them so much that you arranged them into a story? I think that's really neat because that means you didn't write the story for the sake of a fetish but actually to see what contortion is all about as a hobby and in what kind of ways the boys could have fun with it. That's really nice because usually contortion-themed stories are written exclusively by contortion fans for other contortion fans and all they really do in a nutshell is describe various extreme poses. Your story is written for everybody who's curious to learn what contortion is all about and that makes it really unique I think. I hope that doesn't sound like I'm analysing you, I was only trying to explain what I liked about it XD

I wish I could say something about possible new scenarios but unfortunately I've yet to finish reading Double Trouble... in fact I've yet to re-start it (it's hard to find the time to read with so many distractions). But now knowing more details about it, I'll be able to see the story from a slightly different angle and focus more on the plot instead of reading it as a mere collection of bendy scenes. Still as a contortion fan I can't help but appreciate David's incredible flexibility in your newest post! It's so beautiful and elegant that I never closed that page and just keep staring at it every once in a while! :3

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, you have the entire story correct about the origins of the illustrations and the creation of the Double Trouble short stories. I hope you do get the time to re-read it. It was fun trying to tie all the illustrations into one story that made sense. I am glad that you enjoyed this latest illustration of David so much. My favorite is a different one. I love the one of the two sets of twins performing on stage and they are paired with the opposite twin. I enjoyed working that one into the story. I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts about the stories when you get the chance. I have been thinking of writing a 4th one. I still haven't resolved the conflict between David and his school adversary, Lucien. I'm still on the fence on how that is going to turn out.  It is such a shame that Barry isn't around to read it. I feel that he would have been pleased with what I did with his illustrations and it may have given him the encouragement to do more. Maybe even a contortion comic book. Ah well, we can dream.

Because my reply was too long, I sent it as a private note. I'm really looking forward to seeing more illustration you have from Barry Blair's contortion series, as well as hope you will have time and ideas to write the 4th part of Double Trouble! ^^
