Description

Halmyra, the Fleeting Mirage Pokémon

Legends speak of Halmyra, a presence that drifts between myth and reality, appearing only in the most desperate moments at sea. Sailors lost in raging storms, travelers pulled into the abyss of the deep, and those who find themselves stranded in endless waters all tell of a vision—something beautiful, something otherworldly. Yet none can agree on what they truly saw.

Some describe it as a creature of shifting tides, its form gliding just beneath the water’s surface like a koi woven from light and mist. Others swear it had wings of translucent current, unfurling like waves caught in the wind, a beast not bound to the ocean, but flowing through it as if it were air. Some recall the silhouette of a creature galloping upon the sea itself, hooves never quite breaking the surface, while a few claim to have seen the long, sinuous body of a great one, its presence bending the moonlight upon the waves. Yet no matter how their stories differ, they all share one truth—when it appeared, salvation followed.

Halmyra does not seek recognition. It does not linger for gratitude, nor does it demand reverence. It is not a god, nor a ruler of the sea, but something older, something that has always been. When it is seen, it is never fully understood, a fleeting mirage upon the ocean’s skin. Some say it is the ocean’s own will given form, a manifestation of the tides themselves, watching over those who wander too far. Others believe it is a guardian of forgotten paths, appearing where the boundary between the waking world and the unknown begins to blur. There are whispers that it is not a being at all, but a moment—a ripple in time, a glimpse into something beyond human understanding.

Attempts to chase it always end in failure. It cannot be sought, nor summoned, nor captured. Its presence is not dictated by desire but by need, emerging only when the sea itself wills it. Those who have lived to tell the tale find their memories slipping like water through their fingers, unable to recall its exact shape, yet forever haunted by the certainty that they had witnessed something beyond reason. Some carve crude depictions into their ships, others whisper prayers into the wind, hoping that if the time comes again, they might be deemed worthy of its sight.

Though countless stories surround Halmyra, no one truly knows what it is. Perhaps it is not meant to be known. Perhaps it simply is.
