yeah I mean some people get so caught up in the fear factor of the scene they don't even realize
Like think of it like this
Ever realize The bear didn't attack any character at first when it first walked into the house. It attacked Anya yes, but that was probably because she was going absolutely bloody psycho and about to kill the rest of them, which the bear probably heard from outside. Even so, it didn't even kill her before she started unloading on it, just wounded her. It even puts its mouth on Josie almost in a seemingly affectionate manner much like big cats and bears are known to do to humans they have positive relationships to. Sheppard was closest to Josie out of the other girls you saw that in the movie.
The bear and Sheppard are both in pain and begging for help until Anya starts firing her rifle at it. Its at THAT point the bear's survival instincts take over and it goes into a blind rage and tries to kill everyone.
and yes the name is cute XD why must they give cute names to things that are nightmare inducing
