Deer 1 by CTunmasked Deer 1 by CTunmasked
Just messing around with some leather and decided I wanted to do deer antlers. Probably not the most realistic depiction of a deer, but I like the way the horns came out. Fur, less so. The shape is ok, but I can do more with the cheek area.

Comments and suggestions would be much appreciated since I want to try a similar theme again

Its a wonderful idea and execution. I love the spots and the curve on the antlers, it makes me think of the celtic god of the hunt. If I saw it in a store, I would by it

Thanks everyone- I'm really glad that other people like the shape as much as I do. Despite working 3 jobs, I've promised myself to finish at least 1 mask each night this week- maybe I'll get Deer 2 started and see if it's an improvement.

I really love the shape of this. Regardless of whether or not the antlers are "accurate".

Having already made my own attempt at antlers, and being completely traumatized by it, I give mad respect to anyone who can pull them off with leather. :)

Hehe, thank you! Here's hoping I can pull it off again!

I love the shape and think that people will find it very appealing to wear. It may not be "realistic" but it is just cool. I love the colors and the spotted paint job to, they really sell the deer aspect.

i think the design of the mask is sold. mabye you could experiment with using a nutral matte glaze on the antlers. it might give it that extra sense of realism. looks great=D

I really love the design elements of this mask. When I did my version of a deer I based it on a Whitetail & the antlers went up & curved inward, but having the antlers on the sides still suggests the curve & it probably balances better on a human face.

I don't think there's a right or wrong way to do a deer-themed mask, It's still evocative of a deer.

I especially like the face spots. :-) Reminds me of a Fallow deer...they have spots all over, even as adults.

being an avid huntress i get to look a deer antlers alot what you might want to do is add some texture to your antlers at the base and smooth out as you go up. that would give it a more realistic feel. fur patterning not bad at all but with the white dotting would indicate a baby/ very young deer with no antlers or little nubs of them

Good idea with the antlers- and I wasn't looking at any sort of reference for this, so I'm pleased and very surprised that my coloring was anywhere near natural, lol. Hmm... a baby deer might actually be really cute to do, too!
