About my art

I’ve been drawing for over half a century, and I still draw mainly because I enjoy it , experimenting, trying different subjects and styles, and seeing where the next drawing takes me. I’m still on a lifelong search for that elusive “perfect style” that feels completely like my own. I suspect I’ll never quite find it, and I’m perfectly happy with that.

My digital work is made primarily on a tablet using MediBang Paint, drawing directly on the touchscreen with my finger. I also work with traditional media and have been drawing for most of my life.

I sometimes use AI as a tool for exploring ideas, compositions or color possibilities, but I do not post AI-generated artwork. The finished images I post here are drawn by me.

My all time biggest artistic influences have probably been Larry Elmore and Masamune Shirow. Elmore has had a huge influence on my love of fantasy, characters and illustration, while Shirow has influenced my fascination with machines, technical detail and building believable environments. Somewhere along the way, those influences have mixed together with a much wider range of experimentation, which is probably why my subjects and styles tend to wander all over the place.

I’m under no illusion that I’ll ever come close to either of them, but perhaps that’s part of the fun. There’s always something to learn, something to try, and somewhere else to wander.

Mostly, I’m just here to draw, experiment, and enjoy the journey.
