Description

So, I've been working on this for a few weeks and just finished it up! The reason I chose Droopy for Mr. Williams memorial, is because he provided Droopy's voice for the movie he is probably most famous for, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Also, according to this article I read after I had started on this pic, lwlies.com/articles/richard-wi… written by his own Daughter, states that he used Droopy's voice on his last day. It really helped me feel more confident in my choice of focusing on Droopy, instead of Roger Rabbit was the right choice for this tribute picture.

I had originally thought of a one, then two panel tribute. But, then when I had Panel 2 sketched, I decided I'd need a 3rd panel, because I really wanted to have Droopy salute Mr. Williams as he ventured off to the great gates.

I know they are called the "Pearly Gates", but with Panel 1, Pearlizing the gates just didn't look good through the elevator doors opening. SO, I made the designs of the elevator doors pearl-like instead. Besides, in animated movies you rarely see the gates as pearl-colored, mostly as Gold, so that's what I decided on for the Gates of Heaven. The pearly colors came from a very old apology pic to a friend I've sadly lost touch with. I had to enlarge the cutting and then lightened it and added some contrast before adding a blur to make it look smooth. In fact, in panel 3, is a shrunken down version of the pearlized cutting I used for the elevator doors. I'm glad I had that pic, because I don't remember HOW I made the pearlized colors in the first place! LOL

I drew Droopy's poses basically from references from the movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The Crate and Elevator lever as well, changing them a bit. The light shining into the elevator is of course, the light from Heaven, and in Panels 1 and 2, you can see the check-in station manned, possibly by Saint Peter. Been awhile since I did some pixel-by-pixel character work, it was pretty fun. ;D

I HAD considered putting Bob Hoskins at the gates, waiting, but decided against that. It would busy up the scenery a bit more, and you wouldn't have been able to tell WHO it was by face, maybe by the hat and trench-coat. lol

Anyway, we lost a great master animator when Mr. Williams passed. May he be fondly remembered by all, and his work inspire generations of people to come to take up the arts.
