I spent six and a half years in Charlottesville when going for my Ph.D. I find it truly shocking that violence could erupt there. That a white supremacist/neo-Nazi rally could even happen there. One white supremacist rammed his car into anti-fascist counter-protestors, killing one and injuring 19. If that's not terrorism, I don't know what is.
White supremacist and neo-Nazi ideas do not belong in Charlottesville. Or anywhere. What does belong in Charlottesville and all across this world is love and caring for all human beings.
Quoting Nelson Mandela, as Obama did: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
