First off, our last month's prompt "A Livings' Tale, or a Ghost's" gathered more participation than the last one. I guess people needed the creepypasta, eh? :D Here are their works in all their glory:
The Boy at the Train TracksThe train station is full of wandering spirits. I know that dozens of ghosts mingle with the crowd for some reason. I don’t see them all, but I can feel them around. I know that those urban legends about people who've committed suicide on the tracks aren't just horror stories, and those cutsie little tales about someone waiting for a lover even after death are anything but a sappy romance plot. Sometimes, I can make out translucent figures weaving through the droning masses. Other times, I can hear a light humming or a mournful cry. I know that it’s a spirit making those sounds; I can tell them apart from the regular crowd noise. :eager: so great! I enjoyed reading all of these, and even if some stretched the rules a little bit, I'm still very impressed with their work on this prompt. The 100 points go to MizzTusspot and her deviation Haunted, Dead; the wordcount was a bit crazy on this one but it's a story with potential. Congratulations!
But, moving on to our current prompt...

The tiny little bit of inspiration

Differences are what make us all unique. We're all different in some way - whether it be major or minor, appearances or personality, each little thing is important. At the same time, the concept of "being a speshul snowfleik", the different and unique puppy that is not like anyone else is also a pretty abused subject of lots of teenager angst-writing, and some older people's too. (:roll:).
We see a lot of different people around us, though, and a lot of the times we struggle to understand them because we don't know THEIR struggles.

The Prompt

Someone near your protagonist is different. It doesn't matter if it's racial difference, a mental or physical disability, if they're very under or overweight, if they like their cereal in a cup instead of a bowl - they're different, not the protagonist.
It can be any situation you want, but the Different Character's distinguishing trait can't be one you in real life have (that means that if you're homosexual your Different Character can't be. Maybe the DC can be heterosexual in an alternate future where heterosexuality became frowned upon and homosexuality is the norm? That would fit our rules greatly). The story can even be about a teenage girl being jealous about the cheerleader in her class because she's so thin and beautiful and perfect whereas she's short, plump, clumsy and awfully nerdy. But if you do choose that path you can't be a goddamn cheerleader yourself. Writing out of your comfort zone is the point of this prompt!

How does your protagonist feel about this? How does her/she cope with it, do they accept the person or reject it, what do they do to make the Different Character's life better or worse? How do they picture the Different Character's life, how much do they stereotype, how much are they right or wrong about it?


This month is more of a short story type of thing! :la: poetry 30 lines maximum, prose 100 - 600 words.

:bulletred: Your protagonist dies because of something they did to the Different Character. It is not mandatory for it to be a suicide, maybe they tried to kill your DC but your DC drew first?

The prompt asks you to write about someone who is different than yourself in a way you haven't experienced. And this person you will write about can't be the protagonist of your story, they must be a side character.

So this might be a dumb question but does it have to be a real life difference or can it be an imaginary difference?

For example can I write about a cowboy and an alien and have the difference be the fake that he's an alien or does it have to be a cowboy and a runaway slave/Native American?

Because either way it's a different experience for me. I was just wondering what you were going for.
