1. What are you on dA for?

I made my dA account way back when I was in Middle School and now that I'm in college I'm not sure I can recall what was going through my head back then. Heeehee. I'm pretty sure I just wanted to be a showoff -- I had always been "the artist" in my school and where ever i went, so i arrogantly thought that i could take on the world (i probably would have never admitted it back then but that's what i'm guessing). Of course I was still immature, underdeveloped and ignorant. This was until I met friends who all happen to be artists with dA accounts as well and it was humbling to see such varieties in skill, style and talent. I found it very nourishing because we loved and learned from each other and asked each other for artist-advice and received some in return. I'm here because my friends are here. As artists, we will never stop growing and i love watching their growth and development. It's here that I can grow alongside them... and maybe I'm also searching for extra stimulation from a community that's full of talent.

2. Who is your favorite dA member and why?

My FAVORITE dA member? Gosh, for the largest art community on the web, that's a pretty tough question to answer. :'B I'm going to have to say ~miim. I can't say she's my only favorite, but she IS the one who inspired my art-drive way back when I was in 3rd grade. We just randomly stumbled upon each other again on dA. It's kind of funny.

3. Tell us a bit about yourself!

Oh dear. Uhmm. My dA gallery majorly consists of anime/manga styled art... but that doesn't mean it's the only thing i practice! Most of my other works aren't on dA... probably due to the fact that I get my feedback from my art professors when it comes to my more traditional other stuff. I have no other audience for my manga/anime styled art, and the audience that i *do* have are on deviantART. :B ... I also love my dog and my boyfriend. :D If I don't get a career in art, I want to help foster dogs or something (and continue art on the side)! And i practice Catholicism, although i'm not like the stereotypical Catholic.... i think. :'D

4. Why did you join *Critique-It?

I guess just to expose myself, put my work out there in order to receive critiques. The critiques that I do get are often just those who coincidentally stumble onto my artwork. And I would love to hear feedback, especially now since all of my friends (me included) are busy with school and don't have that much time to give a whole fleshed out opinion. And my boyfriend is the poor, poor victim. I also think I shouldn't depend on just the one same source of suggestions. I need the eyes of others to help me along, too! It would be nice...

5. What's your favorite piece from your gallery? Why do you like it so much?

I would have to say it's a recent piece I drew called Just Letting You Know. I like it because it displays a simple gesture of affection that i do all the time. I really drew what I was feeling and I was thinking about my boyfriend -- how i missed him but also how much i appreciated him. I drew how I would show it to him, by hugging his head when he sits down. I like it when his face is pressed against my collar bone but in this piece I drew the guy facing the opposite direction ... I guess to show the act of catching him off guard while he's doing something, probably for the benefit of the girl. Which is not unlike my boyfriend. :D I also like the color of the couch. I know someone that has a couch with that color. I kind of want a couch like that. :'D

6. Do you give critique? Why or why not?

For my friends, I definitely do, whether it's shown on dA or done outside of dA. For strangers though -- I don't know why but ever since dA created the new and polished critique system, I find it a bit more intimidating. Probably because it makes me think more and it probes my opinions more effectively than the normal little comment box. The stars make it worse as i'm very indecisive and I'll bet I'll spend a few hours just deciding on how each should be rated. I haven't tried it yet but maybe I will in the near future. I think it's only right since I'm asking for the opinions of others. I should also give back..

We hope you enjoyed this interview. Please spend a few moments browsing *cottonball gallery!
