Suggester says: "~CristinaPenescu is a master of Scratchboard. I'm mesmerized by the fine details in this piece, especially the wrinkles in the hyenas' noses."

"Hunger Crisis" - 24x17 - Striped Hyenas

The title for this piece has a double meaning. The most obvious is that these two are in a state of conflict over a limited food source, but it also serves a greater meaning, extending out to the human population that inhabits the same land as these guys and shares their struggle.

You can view videos of some of the processes used on this piece below.

What kind of tools do you use? Airbrushing looks interesting, I just don't know anything about it

I use an Iwata HP-BCS and HP-BC1 Plus with diluted india ink to do my airbrushing. For scratching I use a scalpel, x-acto with a #11 blade, and 500 grit sand paper.

This is completely mesmerizing o.o I would at first glance think this as a photograph. Bizarrely this picture is beyond wonderful. I freaking adore the meaning behind the picture as well! And My gawd; the detail put into not only the bone, but into the fur and expressions is.. Beyond words. Also, it was great to see you 'working' on the piece not many people do that ^^; Fantastic addition.
