Coloured version of my half of a trade with draumstafur of her character Andrei.

Andrei Inks by CrimsonMagpie

The colours went through several iterations; light, airy and heavenly; deep blue skies and sparkling white marble; firey sunset... none seemed to work with the drawing. Then, inspired by the local climate I played with a grim, rainy scene. For whatever reason the darker and more miserable I made the colours the more it enhanced the happy, positive feel I wanted the picture to have. :dummy:

Composition deliberately references an old painting of mine.

Quite weird isn't it, when you find yourself using older styles and shapes, but interesting to see how they can be used.

Gosh this is awesome <3 Love the rainy day thing! He's a very sunny character, but he hides deep sadness within :giggle: So the smile and rain just characterize him perfectly. You did an awesome job :iconilavplz:

I very much enjoy rainy voids, distinctive architecture and cozy spaces.  This picture is a well-executed display of those things.  Although I might imagine stone blocks are not at all comfortable.

I disagree - stone blocks can be very comfortable. It kinds depends on how you manage to sit on them

Love that little bird, and the weight in your lines as usual look really neat-- especially in regards to the clothing folds.  It is a bit surprising that you went with a more melancholy colour scheme, but I think it worked out well.

Cheers bud, the bird is perhaps a little self-serving, but it helped add some narrative. :p
