Settling In

Fri Feb 2, 2018, 10:08 PM
Hey, everyone! I made it across country! It was not without its moments of struggle, including but not limited to waiting in the dead of night for roadside assistance and honestly wondering if I will make it to my destination. Nevertheless, I am in one piece. I'm not really up and running yet. I have a lot of things to unpack before getting back into the swing of things. So, no new art for a while longer. I wanted to let you all know though that I am indeed okay and that I successfully completed my cross-country trek. Thank you all for your support and patience. =)

Great American Adventure

Tue Jan 23, 2018, 3:35 PM
A few hours from now, I am heading out on the longest solo drive I will probably ever take in my life, 3,500 miles roughly. I'm moving from the Seattle area back East, and am going the long way around all of that nasty Winter weather in the Northern Midwest. To give you an idea of how far I'm going to be driving for this move, I am going 500 miles farther than the entire length of Europe, from the Southwest tip of Portrugal to Saint Petersburg, Russia.

I don't know how many days this move will take, but I'm going to be as safe as possible. Because of my move, I have had no time for messaging and networking on DA. I have barely made any art this month as it is. I'll get back into the swing of things though once I've settled, probably early February. In the meantime, I'll upload an older render that I've been meaning to post for ages.

Take care, everyone,

Cleaning Things Up

Mon Jan 8, 2018, 4:11 PM
Hey, everyone! Just a quick update on a few things:

A lot of renders are going away. There are several frighteningly ancient renders that I wish to purge from my gallery, and others that I feel no longer represent who I am as an artist. I truly appreciate the comments and favorites that they have received, but it is time for them to go. To those who have commissioned some of these renders, you are free to upload the specific renders you have commissioned to your own gallery, so long as you credit me as the artist.

I really do not approve of artists who delete their works without any warning. Regardless of how the artist might feel about them, there are undoubtedly people out there who still cherish such older works. In consideration of such people, I am moving all renders I intend to delete into a single folder for you to browse. You will have until the end of January to download the renders you wish to keep. Here is the link to that folder:…

I am also going to be reorganizing my gallery folders so that they are easier to navigate. As I go through them, I may find additional things I wish to remove from my gallery, and I will move them to the folder mentioned above as I find them. For those who wish to make sure they do not miss anything, I suggest browsing that folder at the end of the month. Thank you all for your understanding.

In other news, I'm moving again, and this will be quite the big move. I think it is safe to say I will be unavailable, or hardly available for the later part of January and possibly early February. I will do my best to maintain my DeviantART page, but moving takes priority, so I might be even more silent than usual.

I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season. My Christmas was definitely the best I have had in so many years! What is your New Years Resolution? Mine is to kiss an angel.

10 Years

Fri Nov 24, 2017, 4:14 PM
Apparently I just hit my 10 year anniversary on DeviantART. My how time flies! Makes me think of how different of a person I was and what my intentions were here when I first came online.

Since I didn't take my presence on DeviantART seriously when I started, I did not take long to think of a name. I just wanted something that sounded cool. My derpy teenager self thought that "Crimson Knight" sounded wicked cool! Alas, that name was taken, and so were many other forms of combining and misspelling that name. I kept trying though for a whopping 2 minutes, combining the words and getting intimately familiar with the "name already in use" screen. A random try of "Crimsonight" got through though. It was kind of odd, and didn't look much like what I wanted, but I didn't care that much, so there it was. Now, I use "Crimsonight" as my name on most platforms, including games and other forms of online identity. A lot of people call me "Crimson" and I honestly wouldn't want any other name. It's funny how random choices over meaningless things end up defining who we are in one form or another.

Originally, I had no intention of doing anything worth note, just supporting a friend at the time who was an aspiring photographer. I was also an aspiring photographer, and my friend was rather persuasive. So, she eventually convinced me to do more than support her and I uploaded a few of my photographs here. Yup. Originally, Crimsonight had a gallery full of amateur photographs. I have since removed them all, as my perfectionist self could not tolerate the horrendous resolution of the photographs, especially considering they were scans of photographs taken with (gasp) a film camera!!! Alright, dramatics aside, I didn't stick with photography for very long on here. I was not happy enough with my photographs to upload them, and in all honesty I am still not. So, I transitioned to writing, posting my poems and short stories, including a few that were published in magazines and biannual collections. My writing wasn't getting any attention here though and I was fine with that. DeviantART was only a place for me to find artwork I liked, after all, rather than making a name for myself. Nearly six years ago, I started making 3D character art. I had been experimenting with 3D art for a couple years already and only then, once I was comfortable with some more intense programs, did I think to upload my art to DeviantART rather than share with family and friends. Slowly, people started to notice me, and I actually gained a modest following. As most of you know, the rest is history. I've since reached over 1,000 Watchers and over 100,000 Pageviews. I never wanted such attention, and there are times that I don't want it still. I create art for myself, not for others. That is how I always have been. Even though the attention gets too much at times and I retreat into my introverted sabbaticals, please know that I am always grateful for all of the support you give me. From my oldest Watcher to the newest visitor to my page, I am grateful to all of you and I am so happy that you like what I do.

One thing that has remained on all of the versions of my DeviantART page has been my tag line, "The Blind Visionary." This name was given to me back in 2006 when I enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. I made it in, but that's about it. I was thrown over to medical hold during my first week of training due to inconclusive vision test results. Long story short, I spent six weeks in medical hold going through all sorts of vision tests. I was diagnosed with "progressive central vision field loss" and "night blindness" with the cause being "unknown." They said I had five years before i would go completely blind. Thankfully, they had a few things wrong, but only time proved them wrong. I spent my time there coming to grips with going blind, and I feverishly drew and wrote on every scrap of paper I could find, desperately clinging to my love for expressing myself through visual mediums. My fellow soldiers stuck in medical hold really loved the dragons I was drawing and the poetry I wrote. One of them said that, despite going blind, I could see more beauty in the world than anyone else in the barracks. They gave me the name "Blind Visionary," and I have held that title close to my heart, as a badge of honor, ever since. For those who are curious, I later found out that I have a very uncommon birth defect. There is no name for it. Simply put, my optic nerves and eyeballs did not form properly by the time I was born, leaving me with permanent (not progressive) central vision field loss, night blindness, and a few other quirks. It is no detriment to me though. I was born this way, so I have no idea what I'm missing out on. I learned originally how to navigate my world with what vision I have, and have only used any naysayer's criticisms to fuel my ambition towards being an artist. Let the world tell me I can't. I can.

Well, I hope it was at least a little interesting learning about me and my origins here on DA. It's been one hell of a roller coaster, but I am enjoying the ride and am looking forward to many more years here. I know a lot of people make cliche "10 years" images, like the ones they do for "1,000 Watchers" and that kind of stuff, but that isn't really my thing. I think such a milestone is just more encouragement to keep doing what I'm doing, and so I have! I've been working on a lot of new 3D props and environments for use in my renders this month, and I am so looking forward to sharing what I have in the works. Thanks again to all of you for supporting me, both here and on Patreon. Cheers!

Unwatching Deviants and Leaving Groups

Sun Nov 12, 2017, 12:03 AM
Ello ello everyone. I hope you are doing well. Rather than continually sending nearly identical replies over and over again to various inquiries, I am just going to post about this matter here.

As most of you know, I went on sabbatical from DeviantART for about two months recently. When I returned, I had over 8,000 notifications waiting for my attention. I started chiseling away at them right away, but it was too overwhelming. I was receiving over 100 new notifications each day, and I just don't have the time to fight down that number at such a pace. So, I stopped paying attention for a while and missed out on some artwork and stories I definitely wanted to know about.

Long story short, I need to dial back. I am not as active nor talkative on DeviantART as I was a few years ago, and my watchlist needs to finally reflect that. In order to make my account here more manageable for me, I am leaving a lot of groups, especially ones that I rarely, if ever, submit to. I am also unwatching a lot of artists. If you are administrating one of these groups or are one of these artists, I am sorry if my departure hurts you. Perhaps I will start watching people again and joining groups again at some point, but right now, I want to severely cull the notification sources to properly reflect the little amount of time I spend here. Thank you for your understanding.

Patreon Update and Overview

Fri Oct 13, 2017, 4:23 AM
So, if the collage below is any indication, I've been busy! Some of those images are from before I went on sabbatical, but a great majority are renders I have worked on during my time away from DeviantART. This collage, like my previous ones, includes all content posted to Patreon since the last collage I posted a few months ago. I have made a few changes to Patreon, so here is an overview of what I am doing over there:

Update 07 10 12 2017 By Crimsonight-dbqf0b6 by Crimsonight

I have 3 tiers of rewards, depending on how much you pledge to my Patreon page...

1$ Padawan Tier
There are a lot of rewards to be had at this tier. For nearly every image I create, there are test renders being made where I am trying out different things, such as character clothing, poses, or different environments. I save all of the test renders that stand out from the final image and I provide them to my patrons. I also include screenshots and simple renders of the 3D models that I am working on, giving them a preview of what sort of content I am creating for either public or private use. Finally, I also provide the high resolution versions of all of my art that I post here. You may notice that most of my art is posted at a 1600x900 resolution. For each of those, there is a 4000x2250 version that my Padawans get.

$5 Knight Tier
The Knights get everything the Padawans do, and they also get exclusive artwork that never is posted anywhere else. This includes some personal artwork that I make for myself and people close to me, but it also includes pinup art. Every now and then, I enjoy making sensual art with the ladies in my character library and my Knights get to enjoy the show.

$10 Master Tier
Masters get everything. They get all that the Knights and Padawans get, plus a few NSFW renders. Yes, they do exist, and no, they don't appear anywhere else. I do not create NSFW art very much, but when I do, the Masters get to see them. This is a new tier that I am experimenting with. If people show a lot of interest in it, I may expand the rewards beyond just a NSFW render or two per month.

Tiers and their descriptions aside, the other bonus of supporting me on Patreon is the accessibility. Even when I go on sabbatical, which does happen from time to time, I am always on Patreon and I create artwork for each tier every single month regardless.

Feel free to ask me any questions and I hope you stop by and take a look at my Patreon Page. Patron or not, I am truly appreciative of your support. Thank you very much!!!

Crimson Return!!

Mon Oct 9, 2017, 3:42 PM
Yup! I'm back from sabbatical! Thanks for your patience, everyone!

My return is escorted in by the lovely Scarlyn Sturm, who I have finally finished redesigning!
Introducing Scarlyn! by Crimsonight

Don't worry, Kesarah will still be present in my gallery. Scarlyn is just joining in on the fun. For those of you who are not familiar with Scarlyn, she is a Nightsister Exile turned Bounty Hunter from the Clone War and Rise of the Empire eras. I'm looking forward to finally being able to create art with her again.

What else to expect now that Crimson is back? Well.... a lot.

Crimsonight LIVE!
I've experimented with livestreaming my art process and have decided that I truly do enjoy it, so I will be doing it rather frequently. Now that I'm back on DA, I will post a status update whenever I am going LIVE. I will also livestream some gameplay now and then and will also keep you all posted on that.

Content Creator
I'm really putting a lot of time and effort into my content creation for Daz Studio, and it is getting some promising results. Some of the models I am making are going to be on ShareCG for free, but I am also going to dive into Renderosity and see if I can sell some of my models. Wish me luck! If you are interested in being a Beta Tester, please send me a note! The first thing I will be releasing is a Nightsister Bow which will be for free on ShareCG.

1000 Watchers? What? When? Who?
So, apparently my gallery was getting a lot of attention with absolutely no effort on my part. During my sabbatical, I received a few dozen new Watchers and that shot me right up over 1000 Watchers! Ummm, thanks? I have no idea what was causing me to get 4 or more new Watchers each week, but I hope you new Watchers enjoy what I have coming up next! Now, some people make some celebration images for reaching such a milestone... I've got nothing. That said, I am interested in your thoughts on this. Should I do something to commemorate the 1,000 Watcher milestone, or just keeping doing what I do? If so, what do you think I should do?

Patreon is growing!
It started out as a digital tip jar, and I am so thankful for my original supporters who arrived there and supported me with no initial rewards. Thank you! Now that I am getting more comfortable with it, I am really starting to find my rhythm and figure out exactly what I want my Patreon page to be. Even while on sabbatical, I managed to produce monthly content for my patrons. I still fully intend to produce as much art on DeviantART as I have in the past. but my patrons are definitely getting the greater share. I'll post a journal soon explaining what's going on over there. Again, thank you to all of my Patrons!!!!

This is the tip of the iceberg! I have a ton of things in the works and I hope you enjoy the upcoming content. Cheers!

Let's Play Life is Strange

Tue May 30, 2017, 6:41 PM

So, I am giving "Let's Play" videos a try. To start things out, I am playing a game I have already played before so that I can ease my way into the medium and figure out how exactly I wish to present this sort of thing. Do not worry, I am going to do my utmost not to spoil the story for any of you who wish to follow me along as your first time seeing this story unfold. Please let me know if this sort of thing interests you, how I could improve and that sort of feedback. I have a genuine interest in making Let's Play videos, but I do not really know what I am doing yet. ^^;

Life is Strange is one of my favorite video games. I usually like the more action-oriented games that are more engaging, but this game captured me on an entirely different level. The world is so fleshed out and immersive. The voice acting is amazing, and I truly love the story. I hope you enjoy exploring this game with me. If this works well and I decide to do more, I am considering Dragon Age Origins, Bioshock Infinite, Nier Automata, Tomb Raider, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag as other games I might do next. Thanks for watching!

KesaTalk Update

Sun Apr 23, 2017, 3:12 AM
KesaTalk Wallpaper by Crimsonight
KesaTalk 02 is going to be finished and ready Sunday morning/afternoon Pacific Time. Thanks for your patience, everyone. Between work and Daz Studio throwing a series kerfuffle at me, this definitely was not happening on time.

I have decided to make KesaTalk something that happens every other week, rather than every week. Some people wanted more time to think up questions for Kesarah and I think I could certainly use the extra time to do other artwork. I am also going to move it to Saturdays so that it agrees with my work schedule a bit better.

Thanks to everyone for supporting this project with your lovely comments and favoriting the KesaTalk posts. I may not respond to everything, but I do keep up with all of my feedback notifications and I take note of what you enjoy most. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. You'll see more Kesa soon!

Kesa has an idea... by Crimsonight

Hey, remember this lovely lady? Kesarah has felt so lonely and neglected these past few months, barely making a single appearance in my gallery. :(
She misses you all so much! So, this Friday, she is going to hop on to her holoterminal and start chatting with all of you!

Here's how it is going to work:
This is going to be like trading emails with a penpal. Comment here with any message you would like to send Kesarah, asking her questions or saying whatever else you'd like.
On Friday, I am going to post a series of renders with Kesa responding to each of your comments personally.
When I post her responses on Friday, comment on that post with your replies.
Each Friday, all of you who would like to participate will get a personalized render of Kesarah replying to your messages, as if it was a one-on-one chat.

You can jump in and send her a message or drop out at any time.
You have until Thursday night to comment here with your introductory messages to her. You can say "hello," ask a question, or just send her a compliment or two if you'd like. Let's have fun with this!

Have you ever heard of franeres? Well, you are about to! Dragons! Wendigos! Fantastic original beasties! Look it! :wow:

Desert Dragon full color by franeres

The attention to detail and color choices alone are stunning, but also note the artist's care for the anatomy of these wondrous beasts. They have a level of realism to them that actually make me glad that they are not real! ^^; It is a sin that this artist does not have more page views! Look at all of this awesome! Go forth, my Watchers! Favorite! Watch! Comment! Oh yes, please do comment! These amazing images need some love!

And the sun rises...

Fri Dec 30, 2016, 10:24 AM

Listen to some of my favorite instrumental pieces of music while joining me on an alpine drive through Western Canada.

The Story Behind This...
When I moved from Alaska to Washington, my journey was split into two parts. First, I had to drive from Wasilla, Alaska to Haines, Alaska, which took me north through Canada and then back down into the Alaska panhandle. The second part was a ferry trip from Haines, Alaska to Bellingham, Washington. This video, obviously, is from the drive. This drive took me 19 hours, with only brief stops to refuel and one half hour when I got stuck in the snow. Nearly the entire drive was at night, since the nights are quite long around this time of year. I was afraid I would get the entire drive done without any opportunities for photos and video. However, light came upon the horizon as I entered Haines Junction. Not only was I finally going to see the landscape around me, but it was also just in time for the most beautiful part of the drive.
Haines Highway is a roughly 200 kilometer stretch of road with no gas stations, rest stops, or anything else. It is simply a lone road that winds its way through the mountains. As I started the road, I passed signs warning travelers about the lack of amenities ahead and advising travelers to bring addition fuel reserves. I brought 10 gallons of reserve fuel with me, but thankfully did not need to use it.
So, what we get here is a lovely drive through gorgeous country as the sun rises through the morning fog, caressing the freshly fallen snow in a warm and welcoming golden hue. It was like I was driving through a postcard! I wanted to stop and take so many photos, but I had a boat to catch. So, I hooked up my webcam to my sun visor, looking through my windshield right above me. There are no real quality photos from this drive, but you get to see the landscape in its spectacular splendor, through the eyes of my crappy webcam. Enjoy!

I'll get some photos from my move uploaded sometime today or this weekend. I still need to sort through them.

PS: That light blur in the distance to the right of the sun at 40:25 is a rainbow, illuminated in the morning fog. The camera did not capture it very well, but it actually arced over the sunrise. I kid you not! It was spectacular!
