I'm starting anew, with a new page for my art:

:iconbohoscandiacus: Bohoscandiacus

Add me on that page to keep up with all my new things. I've started experimenting with fractal art in Apophysis, and my first creation can be seen here:

-Isms

I hope to see you on my new page!
Yep, apparently it's been that long since my last journal entry. It seems like college life seriously stifles my creativity. But what can you do. I just finished the first thing I've worked on in a while, and it's posted ("Within.") Is it just me or is deviantart dead? It seems so different from how I remember it.

Well, as far as a life update goes, I'm now a junior and I'm working on my bachelor's in communication studies (I know, it seems like I've changed my mind a thousand times.) Once again, my life has done some twisting and turning and my world view has changed drastically because of my new understanding. Hopefully this will move my art in a new direction. I need an outlet again.

I also need to either revamp this entire page or move to a new one... my old stuff just doesn't represent me now. I've been putting tons of stuff in storage, and I'll probably continue to until this page is completely different. I used to be interested in things like commercial photography, and advertising, and the things that go hand in hand with that world (for example, retouching and an unhealthy obsession with superficiality) and I could see myself going in that direction for a career... and now that thought disgusts me. No way could I now allow myself to have my artistic abilities controlled and exploited by the domineering hegemony of corporate hate and greed. I guess studying the media opens your eyes in that respect. The media (generally) is not your friend. They want your money. That is all. They couldn't care less about your happiness. Remember that next time you turn on a box.

And so, it's time for a new chapter in my art.

I guess that about sums it up for now. Hope all is well :)

Wow, I haven't been on here for so long! I've posted a few new things, but I haven't checked anything or posted a journal in a year and a half! Craziness. This site used to be my life. I guess I got a real one XD.

Wow, so much has changed!! Reading through my old journal entries is like reading about a different person, I've changed so much. Grown up, maybe. Or more, at least. A lot more.

So, that whole life thing. I've moved back to Virginia and I'm going to school (I have been for about the past year.) Originally for graphic design, but I think I've decided I'd much rather be a high school level art teacher. Gotta go talk to some people in guidance next week to see what classes I should be taking, and what university I should go to. I can't wait to finish my degree already and start making moolah. Having my own place is going to be so nice.

My 21st birthday is in about 2 weeks! I'm excited, but I feel old. I miss being seventeen! I had no idea how simple life was then. It would be so nice to be able to go talk to myself back then and tell myself what to do. Things would be so much easier now.

So, do I still have any watchers? Stop your lurking, expose yourselves! Lol. I want to start keeping up with everyone's art again, I miss commenting on your work. Although, when I first logged in I had about 1,667 messages O_o. So those are all getting deleted and I'm starting fresh.

Tell me how you have been!

Life

Wed Dec 10, 2008, 12:29 PM
I just realized I haven't posted a journal in over a month! And damn, I was trying to stay on top of that lol.

Unfortunately, things haven't been going so well. I still haven't been able to get a job, and a few weeks ago Darryl got laid off. If it weren't for all of our amazing friends and family, I don't know what we would do right now. You guys have been the biggest help, I  you all!!!

On the brighter side of things, I've been making some money on the side doing retouching work for some photographers :). So that is, at least, enough money to pay a few bills. Hopefully soon someone will call Darryl back about a job and we'll be on our feet again.

Oooo, I start college in January! I can't even tell you how excited I am!!!! It's only two classes (drawing I and graphic design I) but I am STOKED. The drawing class will carry over next year if I get accepted into Shepherd Uni and take their 4-year graphic design curriculum :D. (and I REALLY hope I do!) College is so expensive, I was starting to worry I'd never have enough money or get a loan etc. to go, but my Mom (the coolest Mom in the history of the world. Also ex-hippy. She has very interesting stories lol) took out a small loan so I can start in January. How I'll ever pay her back (not that she's asking for anything in return) I don't know.

Since I have so much extra time on my hands, I might make a news feature or two, so keep your eye out ;). If you have an idea for a feature, let me know!

The Real Silent Hill

Mon Sep 29, 2008, 9:58 PM
If you know me, you know that I LOVE abandoned places, and taking photos in them. Since I just moved up here, I'm not all that familiar with the area yet so I searched around online looking for cool places in PA that I can shoot at. Well, all the while finding awesome abandoned institutions, jails, mines and houses, I found about about this city called Centralia. If you've ever seen the movie Silent Hill, what happened in Centralia bears a creepy resemblance to what happened there. I've heard from a few places that Silent Hill was actually based on this occurrence.

Check out this YouTube video about it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTDAJM…

I really hope to shoot there soon (hmmm... this comes back to me being broke and not having gas money lol.) It's about a 4 hour drive, but I think it will be worth it. Almost everything in the town is deserted, the population is below 15 so I'm thinking that I'll probably just be able to walk into whatever house/store, whatever that I see and shoot.

I swear, as soon as we moved up here, everything started breaking! The water pump in my car went out after taking a taking a few loads of stuff up here, and now it's just sitting in the parking lot until we get enough time to fix it. For a while, the only way I could get online was to take Darryl's laptop up to a local restaurant/ coffee shop and use their wifi. So of course after doing that for a week or two, his Nic card died. This especially sucked because THAT DAY we had gotten high speed internet hooked up (Thank God, no more dial-up!!! of course, dial-up is better than nothing though!). We just weren't meant to go online! I went to the library to try, but of course they block any sites with any nudity at all (OMG Bo0bies!!!!11!! nobody has ever seen those before ) so there went that idea. I wound up complaining about it to my Mom and she actually let me borrow her computer! I was so excited. Of course though, as soon as we got it up here, we realized that we had left the monitor cable in VA *wanted to kill self*. After searching the entire apartment for a cable that would work, we realized that the Xbox 360 power cable fit (YAY!!!) And then we realized that we had forgotten the keyboard :lmao:. So we went to Wal-Mart and got a cheap keyboard, came back, and came to realize that our broadband cable just wasn't working with this computer (it's kind of an old computer, we got it in 2001.) The next day I messed with some things and BAM! Internet. Oh you have no idea how happy I am. I'm so addicted to the interweb :O_o:. DA for life baby...

     I need a life.     And a job...

Yay! We got the apartment, and we started moving everything earlier this week. It's been a huge mess (I had no idea moving was so much work! :lmao:) but soooo worth it! I don't have an internet connection or my own computer right now, which kind of sucks, but there's a little restaurant within walking distance that has free WiFi! :woot: Other than that, I'm just looking for a job. I hope I find one soon, too, I hate being broke! Well, ttyl everyone :)

I'm SO excited! We've found an apartment that is a great deal that we will be moving into asap! Hopefully as soon as this week! :boogie: (Thanks to John and Yolanda!!! :glomp:)

Those who know me personally know my current living situation and it, frankly, sucks! I've never moved before and I'm so excited. I put in my two-week's notice today at work :woot: which is also awesome. I like my co-workers but I hate that job! After this feature, I'm off to start packing a few things :D. Might as well get a head-start being how messy our room is lol.

I've also revamped my Favorites/Collections, so give them a looksie: there's some great art in there (and now it's more organized :D)

 Green is the color of growth, life and rebirth, and I feel it represents how I feel today. So here is a feature of all of the green deviations I've collected over the years, along with a few of my own pieces :yoda: Give them some love!

So a few days ago, I came home from work, and sat down and got on the computer. La-di-da, I'm in a happy mood. Whatever. My Dad toddles over to the kitchen cabinet (where we keep medicines and bandaids, etc.) and starts rummaging through, looking for something. I go "Dad, what are you looking for?" He says "umm.. Do we have anything for burns?" I said "I don't think so, but let me check." I looked around a bit and then went back to what I was doing, since we didn't have anything. After a few minutes, a realization came over me 'My Dad doesn't cook.. how the hell did he burn himself?' So I walk over to his room and ask him. He didn't seem to think it was a big deal "Oh, I burnt my lips and nose because I tried to smoke." (My Dad is on oxygen.) "You WHAT?!" I told him, in the most rational tone that I could muster up "Dad, that really upsets me." and I just walked away. What the hell do you say to that?!

My Dad lit his FACE ON FIRE because he is a MORON! :rage:

It's really a miracle that he didn't blow up the house! And Darryl, who was sleeping in the next room over! :fear:

It was bad enough when he wouldn't quit smoking when he got Emphysema, 16 or 17 years ago. All those years, he just kept smoking. And now, a few months ago, after multiple hospital visits, they put him on oxygen. And he STILL continues to smoke! It really blows my mind! And even though he continues to smoke, I still couldn't believe he tried to while his oxygen was on.... he told me later that he 'forgot' that it was on. WTF?! That's not something that is okay to forget!

Good GOD I need to move!!

Sometimes, when I'm at work, very tired and frustrated, I go to the bathroom for a minute to go, of course, and also to just get away from everything. I go to sit down and, because I'm so tired, I don't bother to hover (I do normally do because toilet seats are quite icky.) I just sit, right on the damn toilet, and quickly realize that the person in here before me was an inconsiderate hoverer!!! Does this piss anybody else off? I mean really, are they lazy, or do they think it's funny? Gargh!

I was at first upset that dA decided to change what seemed to be a great system, but after using v6 more, I love it! I think I'll be online a lot more with v6 since it makes everything so much easier. I especially love the new message center!! It makes me look at the new deviations everyone has posted, which was a problem for me before (looking through everything before was just too annoying for my lazy self.. so I never did lol!) I've got 335 deviations to go through, and hopefully I'll be done by the end of the week :lmao:. I've been missing out on some great art though, so I'm glad the new system makes it so easy for me to view it all.

I've been thinking about cleaning out my gallery some, too. If something really sucks and I haven't scrapped it, please tell me! I want to start focusing more on the quality of my work.

Yay we should be moving soon! So that Darryl will be closer to his job. I'm kinda sad since I signed up too late this year to get any FAFSA money for college, but maybe I'll take a few classes second semester in Hagerstown or something, just to get started. And then next year I'll hopefully get some grants and if that's not enough, I'll take out a loan. I think I'm going to start by getting my associates degree in graphic design, and maybe pick up a certificate in photography. I have to get into college! It's driving me nuts not having anything to study or work on. For God's sake I get bored and read Wikipedia :O_o: I mean of course I have art and retouching to take up some time, but I feel like I'm not getting anywhere with it, no matter how much I improve (which, by the way, you should check out my most recent retouching, I'm quite proud of it.) I think once I get a professional website I might start getting some work, and of course promoting myself. Unfortunately that's all too expensive for me at the moment. Right now I have to save up money for moving :D. You have no idea how excited I am about that. My parents' house sucks! Horribly. You all who know me personally know what I'm talking about.

So anyway... Yay!

Woo I had a blast in Europe! We went to London, Paris, through Germany, and then to Switzerland. I have to say, London is the most awesome place I've ever been to :D. I really think that the people in Europe are just so much more attractive than most Americans. I can't tell you why, but it really seems that way. People in London seemed pretty nice, too, which honestly surprised me for such a big city.

Paris, on the other hand... I really don't think that the French like Americans, it's really not an exaggeration. I think it's very narrow-minded of them but whatever. When we were on the subway, they would get in their little groups and laugh and blatantly be talking about us. It was SO rude and unnecessary. Don't get me wrong, the landmarks are beautiful and the Eiffel Tower was awesome, but it's also a very dirty city in my opinion, especially compared to London.

Switzerland was GORGEOUS, and everyone seemed pretty nice. Every morning I woke up, I just couldn't believe the view out the window. It was just surreal. I felt like it was just a giant mural and the mountains weren't even there. Just breathtaking. The only bad part was the WALKING! Everything is hills there, just up and down, and when you walk a mile downhill, it's almost as tiring as going up. I really learned to appreciate flat ground :D. We went white water rafting, it was the most amazing thing! I want to take some trips to West Virginia now to go again, I think I'm an addict! Definitely an adrenaline rush. Our guide was a little dumb though, and missed two GIANT rocks that we ran right into. Thank God we weren't going fast enough to flip, but I was scared! I really thought we would. It was a Level 4 section. One part of the river was a 6, and we had to get the boats out, go 5 minutes farther down the river, and get back in. Apparently it's illegal to raft commercially on Level 6. There is a 'high risk of fatality' lol.

I might post some of the better pictures on here, we'll see :) I do have some posted on flickr though, if you're curious, and I plan on eventually posting them all (that's going to take a while... I took 1,200 lol.) Here's the URL: www.flickr.com/photos/67371912… .

I started reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I was kinda disappointed when it came out because I was looking forward to the new book in her Twilight series, but The Host is still good, even better than I expected.

I want to make a news feature on political and social art, so if you have anything you'd like featured let me know and I'll check it out.

I turned 19 last Thursday on the 12th!! Woo! I can't believe I only have one more year to be a 'teenager' so I have got to make the most of it! :strip: :lmao:

Yay! My girl scout troop has been planning this trip for two years now and finally we're leaving next week! We're going to Switzerland, England and France, and passing through Germany. I'm SOOOO excited!!

I'm going to be bringing 4 4GB cards for my camera, and each one holds 519 photos in FINE JPEG, so I hope that 2,000+ photos is enough!!

I'm trying to make sure I pack everything I need but I know I'll forget something lol. Oh well.

Man, getting currency sucks; I really feel like I've lost so much money since the USD is worth so little right now. I have to spend twice as much to get that many pounds. It sucks :(.

Yay! My mom bought me a Nikon D60 as an early birthday present  You have no idea how happy I am! I'd wanted the Nikon D40x for about a year, but I could never get quite enough money together at one time, and nobody would finance it for me. But YAY!!! The D60 is practically the exact same thing, with a few extra goodies. She got me the kit with the 18-55mm lens and the 55-200mm lens, which is very exciting.

The only sucky part is that I got overly excited and immediately started shooting in RAW - not realizing that Photoshop 7 doesn't process RAW images. Haha I can be so stupid. Ah well. I'll just have to find some good software that does :D. Any suggestions? I've heard LightRoom is good, but I don't know where to buy a cheap copy.

Now all I have to do is buy an external hard drive to store all this new stuff on!

Not long after I got it, we took a trip up to Wilkes-Barre PA, where we're moving, to look at apartments. While we were there, a pub caught on fire and I got some really awesome shots. I can't wait to post them! Just need to get them out of RAW format first :). The smoke got so bad that we eventually left. But you wouldn't believe how close they let me get!

This camera is such a huge leap from what I've used before, I'm just astounded at the level of detail and crispness as compared to my Sony and Minolta. I feel like I finally have a little bit of creative freedom!! I can't wait to start experimenting with HDR and to try some fashion photography :D.

So how is everybody?

Warning Labels

Mon May 26, 2008, 6:02 PM
CAUTION: This post may offend the stupid.

I AM SO SICK OF MORONS!  I went out to my car today after work, letting my car warm up before I went home. I was sitting there, talking to my friend, and a truck pulling a trailer pulls into the parking lot. I don't really think anything of it. My friend (Ashlyhne) had her door open since she was smoking. The guy keeps getting closer, and closer, and eventually Ashlyhne had to close her door to keep him from hitting it!! He got INCHES from my car! I had a horrible day at work and this just completely tipped the scales. I slammed it in reverse and said "ARE YOU A FUCKING MORON?!?!" and then sped off ;). Which I kind of regret, but honestly, the situation couldn't have gotten any better after that. (I could foresee my car being kicked... and that would NOT have been good!) I'd really like to know how this guy got a license....

But this brings me to a good point that some friends brought up not long ago: Warning labels has made Darwinism almost non-existent in humans. Just think about it. Years ago, idiots fell off of cliffs and we didn't have to worry about them screwing up our lives.

The USA is completely dumbed down... It's really quite sickening. Please, I URG you to watch this video! It's interesting and I'm really not sure what to think of it.

I've gone through a long period where I didn't get on the internet much, let alone dA. So for those of you who didn't hear, in December Darryl was at work and fell off of a building his company was working on. He fractured his pelvis and wrist (thank GOD he landed the way he did- he really could have died, you have no idea how scared I was when he called me from the hospital.) Worker's Compensation denied his claim and we've been so broke for the past few months. He was finally allowed to go back to work in March, and got his job back at Phoenix Color (a different, safer job!) two weeks ago. So things are finally starting to straighten out. (Well except for the medical expenses, but that's a whole 'nother story.) <--------------- Three months in one paragraph! :O_o:

In better news, I'm try really hard to get everything together so that I can go to college this fall. I really hope I qualify for financial aid, I really don't know how else I can afford it.
