Why not try to restart Sonic Origins via Kickstarter?

When you fundraise for a project, there are a couple of assumptions that are made:

A.) It will be done faster.  In this case, it would not make the project come out faster because I was doing it by myself when I had free time. On that note, I actually did get some funding when I first started the project and I tried to hire some people to help to get it done faster. This didn't end up happening. Mostly, I would get half-finished work and have to do it over again myself and it would set me back more.  THEN I would feel guilty for spending money and having anything to show for it. Many professionals also refuse to do paid work for fan projects.

B.) If I raised money, there is extra accountability. I'm not going to take money from people and leave with nothing to show for it. However, when I'm animating there is LITERALLY nothing to show unless you want spoilers. I was getting complaints on "spoilers" for the trailer by showing progress like screenshots or something. The trailer was custom created and had no scenes from the animation. So. :| If I spend a ton of time working with nothing to say besides "Ya I'm still animating". I can see this becoming a huge issue ESPECIALLY when money is involved. It was a big enough issue when money was NOT involved. Gonna stay away from that.

The only way fundraising is feasible is if I work to where the project is almost finished, then do fundraising to basically refund myself all the money I already spent.  At that point, what would I be fundraising for?  Probably just a music score, a refund, and I would be spending a bunch of time on creating rewards for Kickstarter. This is assuming that Kickstarter would even allow this project since it skirts their rules on copyright. And from my research on Kickstarter projects, giving the premise of "I'm fundraising to pay myself back for all this money I spent" is not going to fly. At all.

And as I've said before, this project was just for me to animate and have fun. I'm not doing it for anyone else, and re-animating months upon months worth of work again is not fun for me. Therefore, I will be doing something else next time I animate. I already have a couple other ideas.

I don't want you to give up on your hard work my friend. Think about the fans you made so far. You know what they say: When worse comes to worse, try, try again.

Sorry to hear about it!

sometimes I lose some data once in awhile and try to replace it and when it came to jump drives or my computer I try to replace what I'd lost and try best way when it comes making up for lost data.

If that happened to me I sometime try picking up the pieces and try starting over again or just moveon.

And it up to you now it your decision to make.

I’m very sorry to hear about what happened. But don’t be so hard on yourself. From what I’ve seen you have an outstanding passion and that deserves to be commended. I look forward for what the future has in store for you. God bless.
