The otter I'm told... by cricketumpire The otter I'm told... by cricketumpire

                                                                                            The otter, I'm told,
                                                                                            will never grow cold,
no matter how chilly the water.
                                                                                            Instead he will float
                                                                                            in his lovely fur coat
while the warmth of his fur makes him ‘otter.

The river otter is protected and insulated by a thick, water-repellent coat of fur. It's apparently one of the most dense mammal furs.
Most otters order their hair gel wholesale and in bulk quantities!    Stylin'

That would be brilliant. We're restricted to visiting the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in London, Washington and Slimbridge to get our chances of seeing them. That isn't quite the same as your experience though   OMG, SO CUTE-

He's part of a breeding programme to help endangered otters in Asia. He lives in the WWT centre in Washington, Yorkshire. Try Googling it  :)

The photograph?  I just pointed the camera and pressed the shutter button

The otter's imperfections make this picture interesting—their mouth is covered in algae, their nose with some form of detritus, they have no eyebrow vibrissae on their left side, and they have small bare patches on their head...

Interesting observations. He had just come up to the surface after swimming under water. The anomaly on the nose is a stream of water forming a deep film over it. The fur on the back of the head is divided by water flow when swimming to reveal deeper layers. Otter fur is the densest of any mammals I believe. To be fair round the mouth does look like a heavy smokers stained beard but in truth I think it is just very fine fur of a different colour...

So don't worry about him too much, he's a health specimen in reality
