in my experience, this is how you do collabs--one person starts the project emails it to the other artist who finishes it and you both post it. that's really best for drawings. digital remixes of traditional art or of other digital art are good. line art that one person draws and another colors, whether printing it out and coloring it in with physical media and scanning/photographing it, or coloring it digitally is also an excellent way to collaborate. anything that is designed by one person and executed by another works, too. the main thing is for two artists to get together and create something they both work on.

one thing i would like to do in this group is bring people together, whether they know each other or would like to work with someone whose works appeal to them, to, well, create collabs! i haven't quite figured out how to set this up. for the moment, the best thing i can think of is that you can put in the group comments that you are looking for a collab partner and a bit about what kind of thing you would like to do. alternatively, you could contact someone in the group and see if they'd like to do something with you. and, maybe the group will inspire you to ask someone who isn't in the group to do a collab and then post it in the group.

i'm going to add a line art to color folder and i want to point out that i have a works in progress folder that would show the progress of a collab or probably one the beginning half and then post the finished work in the group.

if anyone has any ideas or questions be sure to let me know by note or in the group comments.

i'm going to reiterate that this group is ONLY for art that is the work of more than one person.

thanks so much for joining or watching. let's get the work flowing in! spread the word to your friends, if you like, it would be fun to get this going as a trend.

love, merpa

I know this is an old post, but I have a question. Is a collab a mutual agreement between artists to do a project with no payment involved? It's sort of just a "for fun" thing?

how do you send someone an incomplete of a traditional drawing and have them complete it traditionally?

So. I am not talented in visual art much. However I fancy myself decent when it comes to the written/spoken word. I was trying to find someone who might be interested in doing a possible comic book collaboration... is there anyone here that would be interested in that?

You don't need a email, you can contact them any way as long as you can send them images or files

okay, I have a piece for coloring, thought I'd submit it to the group, but your *line-art to color* folder is not there yet, so I submitted to group faves for now, sorry. Maybe you could move it to the correct folder? [link]

Hey, maybe you could also make a folder with other (non-line art coloring)*pieces offered for collabs*? Though I'm not sure other people like to see the pieces to be shown publicly~ before the 2nd person has finished with them? Or do they? Since you guys used to Email the pieces to each other? But in a folder every sees what's for "sale" and then the artist could just open them up for download at an agreed time, once they've agreed to whom they be working with? Or would that spoil the surprise of collabs?

hey lou!

sorry about not having the folder ready! i'll go do that now. what i'm going to do is decline your submission and then invite it and put it in the line art folder. doh! i just saw you asked me to move it. i'm going to have to sort something out, i decided i don't like the way i set the permissions, i required too many votes for things that are proposed as faves, so i have to sort that out, lol! i'll get it together though. and thank you so much for submitting it! whee!

that's a good idea, well, i think it would be cool to see the first half then the second half, that's why i made a WIP folder. however, the idea for having a "for sale" folder, is still good and i think i'll probably do that. i appreciate the ideas!

thanks for that explanation Merpa. I have 2 questions:
- in your experience, did you 2 discuss what the finished piece should look like, beforehand? Or the 2n person is just to see what the first half speaks to them, and wants done?
- did you ever exchange a actual real physical piece, or only worked digital so far?

Exciting stuff this could be
I must say since I saw you start these - I mean, you prob not the first to do these, but you're the first I* saw on DA - I really liked that idea.. and the end results were always exciting too! :w00t:

when i've done collabs we usually decide on a few ideas as to how it looks--like what mediums do you want to use, this is the them (:iconhesterkin: and i did one based on eyes and we're in the midst of doing one based on butterflies.) other times when i was asked to start and the other person didn't really care or want to decide or whatever then i look at their gallery and try to think of an idea that fits in with both our styles.

no, i've never exchanged a physical work, it hasn't been necessary. i've thought about that issue though, if painters, for instance, wanted to collab that might be necessary, but mailing a canvas is kind of a pain in the butt, expensive etc. so i'm not sure on that one.

thank you so much! i think it's a neat opportunity for people!
