Ah, animal ears. They sure are fun to look at (I'll admit I love designs with huge ears myself), but sometimes they just are a pain to draw. And thus, here's another tutorial explaining some of the most common ear shapes and how to draw those correctly, alongside some other things it's neat to know while drawing animal ears. The different ear shapes Now, I think we all know that different animals have different ear shapes. However, they all serve the same purpose - to get a larger area to "catch" sounds, which are then sent to the inner ear. This limits the amount of good ear shapes - to the point where there are only four main "natural" ones (in other words, shapes you'll see on wild animals). Note that these are general shapes, though - there are lots of variations in the different categories, some ears are a mix of two categories, and some (like elephant ears) are just unique. Now - the four natural ear shapes are triangular ears, rounded ears, long/rabbit ears and ungulate ears:
