Weeks passed after the encounter with Joseph and Abigail began her training in Telepathy and became very good at it. Her training consisted of zoning out all thoughts besides one, communication through thoughts and physical labor to keep the body in shape.

“Come on, Abigail! Push!”

Abigail slowly inched her way forward while pushing an old rail car full of boulders on the railroad tracks. Sweat dripped from her brow as she stopped for a moment to catch her breath.

“Come on, Abigail! There ain’t no rest for the wicked!” yelled Blain on top of the rail car.

“Oh don’t give me that crap! I’ve been pushing this thing for a half a mile! It’s heavy as hell!”

Blain jumped down from the top of the car and leaned against it, “This is to get you in shape and to push your new found strength. It’s not supposed to be fun or anything. I need you to be in the best possible shape when the enemy arrives.”

Abigail looked down with a frown and leaned against the rail car. Blain expression changed to a soft one and hugged Abigail, kissing her on top of the head.

“I’m just trying to get you in shape so you could be more prepared for what lies ahead. I’m not trying to be mean here.”

Abigail leaned against Blain, “I know, but you are one hard drill instructor.”

“Maybe because I got that from my mom?” Blain thought.

“Anyway, let’s end it here today,” said Blain.

Abigail gave a sigh of relief and walked a few feet in front of Blain and turned around. Blain popped himself off the cart, but gave a short jump into the cart, sending it screeching down the tracks.  When it can to a halt, Abigail glared at Blain as her eye twitched.

“You are such a show off. I hate you sometimes.”

Blain laughed and turned Abigail around, his arm across her shoulders, “Oh whatever. You’ll be able to do the same in time.”

Abigail rolled her eyes and smiled as the two made their way off the tracks. The sun shined brightly, but began to be covered by stormy clouds. Abigail and Blain looked up as they began to roll in and start sprinkling. Abigail and Blain began to run through the forest and found the edge of the city. The two crossed the street and made it to a dry place before it began to pour heavily. Abigail leaned against the sole pillar holding up the shelter above their heads and slide down to the ground. Blain sighed and joined her next to the pillar. They quietly watched the rain pour down from the heavens until Abigail gave a small sigh.

“Something on your mind?” asked Blain, glancing over at her.

“I don’t know….have you ever wished that none of this happened? You know, all of this infection, the BB virus….all of it? I mean…this is just so messed up.”

Blain looked out into the rain and thought about what Abigail asked. They both sat quietly, the only sound being made was the rain dropping and a distant crack of thunder.

“There are many things that I wish that didn’t happen,” said Blain, looking at Abigail. “I’ve lost a lot of friends because of them. I suffered a great deal of pain and sorrow because of the BB virus. When I was being held there, I thought about killing myself so many times,”

Abigail’s eyes widened as she grabbed a hold of his hand. Blain smiled, wrapping his fingers around Abigail’s hand.

“I was afraid of what I would become and what they would use me for so….I ran. I escaped from the company and took Sophie with me. I’ve never ran that fast before….I couldn’t stop running. I ran past a lot of people, screaming out in pain and in fear. It’s also where I got this scar over my eye. It’s a painful reminder of what happened and I don’t think that it will leave me anytime soon.”

Abigail frowned and looked down at the ground and scolded herself from bringing up such a painful memory. Blain looked at her and gave her a comforting smile, moving her gaze back up at him.

“But even if all those things happened to me and Sophie, if I didn’t, I may have never met you. Even when I think about that, if I never managed to escape and I knew you were out there, I would try and escape until they killed me. Because I can’t imagine you not being apart of my life. You’re too important to me.”

Abigail blushed heavily and smiled, tears slowly forming in her eyes. She chuckled and wiped them away, scooting closer to Blain as he did the same. They both looked into each others eyes, their hearts beating together as one. Blain slowly tightened his grip on Abigail’s hand as he leaned towards her. Abigail closed her eyes and leaned towards the warm lips of Blain’s as they slowly pressed against hers. Abigail inhaled sharply as her body began to heat up. Blain laid his hand on the back of Abigail’s neck, pressing their lips together more. Abigail gave a slight moan as their lips separated. Blain rested his forehead against hers and smiled, blushing. Abigail smiled and closed her eyes, leaning against Blain. They stayed in that position for a while, their hearts connected to one another. Blain took a deep breath and looked at Abigail.

Abigail moved her forehead away and looked at him with a smile, “What?”

Blain’s heart pounded against his chest as his ears started to feel like they were giving off serious heat.

“You can tell me, Blain. What is it?”

Blain took another deep breath and looked down at the ground, then up at Abigail. He tried to say something, but found that his mouth never opened as the words began to build up in his throat. Blain finally snapped and grabbed Abigail’s and looked her straight in the eyes.

“Abigail….I love you!”

Abigail’s eyes widened as big as dinner plates as her heart skipped a beat. Blain face started to change to red as the two of them sat in an awkward silence.

“Y-Y-You….You love…me?”

Blain jumped a little and started looking around, but came back to Abigail and nodded. Abigail blushed a dark red and found herself at a loss for words. She never experienced a situation like this before and didn’t know what to say or do. Abigail looked around like Blain did and smiled. She rolled her body forward in Blain’s direction and hugged him. Blain blinked a few times and hugged Abigail back.

“I-I’m not really sure what your answer is…”

Abigail moved away from Blain, smiling and blushing lightly. She chuckled and stood up, asking Blain to stand also. Now that they both were standing, Abigail gently grabbed Blain’s hand and looked up at him.

“Blain, I am truly the happiest when I’m with you and….I don’t know what I’d do with out you. W-What I’m trying to say….is that…..Blain, I love you too.”

Blain breath seemed to slip out of his lungs as he tried to remember to breathe normally. Blain eyes began to water as he pulled Abigail close to him and hugged her tightly. Abigail was surprised by the sudden hug and stood there quietly. Blain sniffled and hugged Abigail tighter as she finally hugged him back. Blain moved back and wiped one of his eyes of tears and looked at Abigail with a smile. Abigail stared back into his eyes as they moved closer and kissed once more, but this kiss sent a chill down Abigail’s spine and made her head spin. Abigail’s knees felt like they would give away at any moment, but felt as if she was floating in the air. Blain’s mind went blank as an intense warmth spread from his chest to the rest of his body. The two began to breath heavily as they moved away, blushing a deep red. They both smiled hugged once again as the rain finally started to lighten up to a drizzle. Abigail and Blain walked their way home, hand and hand, with large smiles across their faces. They rounded a corner and saw a man running up to them.

“Hi, do you guys have a phone I could borrow? My car broke down and my phone died.”

Abigail handed her phone to him and held to Blain’s arm tightly. Blain glanced down at her and back up at the man.

“Excuse me, but where did you’re car break down exactly?”

The man looked at Blain surprised and pointed behind him, “In that direction. Why?”

“Well, in that direction, there’s a cul-de-sac where your car broke down, but you came to us asking for a phone?”

The man began to plead his case, but neither Abigail nor Blain were buying a single word of it. As the man continued to talk, Abigail heard a voice from behind them. Before she could say anything to Blain, a sharp pain suddenly appeared on the back of their necks. Abigail reached behind to feel what bit her, but her gaze became foggy and passed out, face down on the sidewalk. Blain fell to his knees and pulled a dart out from his neck. His eyes widened when it finally occurred what it was he was holding. He glanced back and saw three to four men in black army suits holding guns, all of them with wide smirks.

“Tranq…tranquilizers….” was all that Blain could mutter before falling to the ground next to Abigail.

The middle solider walked up to the two and examined them over before placing two of his fingers against his ear.

“Team Bravo to Mother…We have Subject Zero and his girlfriend. Permission to return to base.”
Infection chapter 15!

This one has a little more emotion into it, but I think it really has a good lead into the next chapter.
