Woman
Wandering through the day today,
I found myself asking,
What is a woman?
What makes a woman?
What defines her?
Is it her breasts?
What lies between her legs?
Is it the bloody pain she endures,
At each moon turn?
Is it the clothes she wears?
Hiding bumps and flattering curves
Is it the makeup she layers on?
Covering blemishes and highlighting features
Is it her hairstyle?
Her shoes?
Her smile?
Her posture?
The way she speaks?
Is it her career?
Or the man she marries?
The children she bares
And the family she holds together?
Are these what define a woman?
Then what of she,
Plain faced with worn-out clothes?
What of she who loves another woman?
What of she who was born a man
But knew she was not within?
Are they not women too?
So what then makes a woman?
What defines her?
I think the answer is that nothing does
For each woman is unique
Each a gemstone without like
And while some maybe twisted and ugly
Others are beautiful beyond description
But each is, uniquely
Woman

Leviathan
Twas night
And I was dreaming
And in my dream I woke
Submerged in water
And for a moment I panicked
For I feared I would drown
But I breathed as freely in the water
As I would on land
The water around is blue
But deepens and turns black in the distance
I look up
The water seems endless
As if a hundred thousand leagues stood between me and the surface
I feel a shifting in the water
And I turn to stare into the darkness
I see nothing
So I turn my face away
The water shifts again
It’s stronger this time
I turn to the darkness once more
There is something in the deep
And it’s coming towards me
I can barely make it out
But it seems large
The closer it comes; the more the creature seems to grow
By the time I can make it out
My mind can no longer comprehend its size
This creature, this monster, is enormous
It is a madman’s nightmare
A biblical monstrosity rendered in flesh and bone and scale
Its eyes are slitted like a snake’s
And glow a dull gold
Bony spikes follow it

Greyscale
Their vision of the world
He finds it strange
He truly does
Their vision of black and white
So stark
So simple
He fears he cannot hope to understand them
For his mind is awash in chaos
And filled with visions of grey
Oh how he wishes to see like them
To know the line between right and wrong
But the mind would not allow
And his thoughts are plagued with doubts
His path is unclear
And he can’t but stumble his way
Through his world of grey

Mirrored
This woman I see
Staring at me across the way
So close yet so far away
With only a pane of fragileness
To protect me from her gaze
Every feature, so familiar
Her face, etched in my memory
Yet her gaze I know not
In her eyes, I see a stranger
One with a soul of ice
But this stranger is familiar
Her darkness is known to me
For I see her everyday
She, my other self
She who hides behind the glass
A mere reflection in our world
She is my darkness
She is my madness
She is a nightmare in its truest form
Hiding in wait, in realms unknown
Enclosed by its walls
But the walls are so fragile
So easy to crack and break and shatter
And then she will come
That child of shadows
Come she will, to reverse our roles
Then she will stand, strong and true
And I will be but a reflection
Lying in wait, for a crack in the pane

Up, up High
Down below; in the deepest of depths
Down here they keep him chained
Here he sees not the sky
Feels not the wind nor the sun
Deep below; his body lays chained
Only in his dreams does he escape from his hell
In slumber he flies
Up onto the sky; like an eagle true and sure
The peaks of the snow capped mountains
They have no say
Over the limits to which me may soar
But his body remains chained down below
Wait! Here they come to take him away!
They drag his near-corpse up endless stairs
His neck on the block
The axe falls down; his head in the basket
His body, now worthless, remains on the ground
But his soul, now free, flies high
Up, up high; into the sky

The Emerald Courtesan
I gaze at her beauty and hide my face in shame
For I am not worthy of such splendor and grace
The lady, she truly is, a wonder to behold
Her hair, locks of gleaming chestnut, falling in a wild tumble of sensual grace
Her face, so fine, so lovely, Aphrodite herself screams in righteous fury
Eyes, so clear, with purity beyond compare
Their hue so green that emeralds may weep with envy
Her skin the finest ivory; her figure without flaw
She dances, I declare, with feet lighter than a feather
Her voice, a melody so sweet, no songbird can compare
Her wit, her grace; I dare not speak
For what words can capture their true splendor
What a woman, nay, what a goddess
I am but a mortal soul basking in the glory of her eternal reign
She lives above the squabbles of our common court
Her emerald gaze cares not for our petty plots and foolish schemes
Her company is graced by kings
And we, of the court, are worthy to do naught but serve at her feet

Septic Paradise
The merciless sea shows us no mercy
It tosses our ship like a leaf in the wind
Stamping its dominance in the hearts of our strongest
My grip loosens; my feet fall from under me
The sea tosses and I am plunged into blackness
My eyes open and the sun blazes forth
Am I dead? I feel sand beneath my hands
No, I live but in a place I know not
Rising to my feet, I turn and face
The place that shall for now serve as home
A week now I have lived here
In this wild paradise
Lush fruits fill my belly
Springs of crystal water refresh me
This place, so idyllic
And yet its wet heat oppresses me
I dream of home and long for it more
Of the flowers of spring and blushing maidens galore
Of succulent fruits and summer wines and buxom wenches laughing in joy
Of the gold of autumn and spirited girls playing with leaves in their hair
And of freezing winters with their roaring blizzards and of ice cold ladies in luxurious furs
Yes I dream of home and all of its comforts
I saw her today; a black panther

Deviant Daughter
A beautiful girl
This image of my daughter
A lovely woman
On every painting
But the tendencies display the truth
Of her deviant nature
A match must be made
Such is her duty
But she will hear not of marriage
And threatens suicide at the mention of it
Truly a ponderous thing
My dear deviant daughter
Patience I pray, be granted to me
For I have none left for her scandalous ways

Caution In The Wind
Every day the same theme
Day after day
Morning, noon, and night
Without a single change of pace
Their roles are defined
They know no other way
A baker’s daughter
Pretty lass
With flour on her cheek
Kneads the dough
And bakes the bread
Without break she toils all day
A noble’s daughter
Delicate thing
All dressed up in silk and lace
Powdered with rouge
In idle boredom
She passes her days
Till she is found a good match
Pretty ladies
Lowborn and highborn
Lovely ladies
Would you not change your pace?
Would you not change your tune?
Toss your flour in the air
Rip apart your gowns of silk
Get rid of common sense
And let fate decide
The path on which
You now shall go

Before you Bow
You stand today, oh gallant knight
Before your great liege lord
Your armor is gleaming
And your banners are flying
You come before your king to kneel at his service
But before you bend your knee, dear knight, I beg you hear me
Yes before you bow, dear knight, please hear my words
Please open your eyes, to the man here before you
And see him through another’s eyes
He dons a cloth of gold; with jewels on his brow
While his people wear rags and shiver in cold
He eats the finest cuts and lives in a palace of treasures
While his people starve and sleep in the mud
Dear knight, my words are true; for why should I lie?
Would your knee not stiffen kind Sir, before this man?
I ask for naught, gallant one, I only request
That you ponder upon this king, this man, before you bend the knee

Burn
I feel strange
My body is ablaze
What is this ache?
What is this need?
Am I in hell?
What is happening?
What is he doing to me?
His touch scorches me
His breath; a flame upon my skin
What is this?
I feel my body burning
My skin sweltering in this inferno
My soul blazing asunder
Will this not stop?
Or will he render me to ashes?
This fire
It burns within
The pain cleaving me to pieces
Why do I crave it so?
Why do I crave him so?
This need
This infernal need
Is driving me to madness
I feel my sanity slipping away
Reality losing its meaning
Till all that is left is him
And the fire
That terrible fire
That wonderful fire
Burning me
Scorching me
Setting my world ablaze

A quandary my dear, is it not?
A curious state of affairs, on every twist and turn
What what my dear? What is this that you say?
A villain he must be?
Why must he be?
His deeds you say?
But my dear who is to say, he is not a hero in his brain?
What is bad, what is good?
I cannot say. Can you?
The line between good and evil, so often is it blurred
Why murderers and rapists can be heroes in their own eyes
Even a babe, just born, can be a villain to another

What of me, you say?
What am I in my eyes?
Why truly, my dear, I am of the feline persuasion
Sauntering down the path of life
Paying no heed to the wandering masses
And if I lose my path and my head in the package
Well, my dear, of lives I have eight more to spare
And if I grow tired of the endless road
A rug and a fireplace will be mine from then on
A bowl of cream by my side
Simplicity and decadence all in one turn

What is this that you say my dear?
What if kings fall and kingdoms crumble?
What then

Dawn of a New Day

He sits in the shadows,

Chained with lies,

Bound by deceit.

But no more.

These chains he bends,

Pulling.

They chafe his skin,

Fighting back.

But he is relentless.

Others watch.

The weak in envy,

For they wish to do the same.

The ignorant in disgust,

For they know not the world,

Beyond the shadows.

Chains break,

And he is rising.

He is bleeding,

For the chains cut deep.

He now rises,

But falls back down.

His skins are too heavy,

And hold him back.

Taking strength,

He sheds despair.

Cutting and striping,

He pulls off sorrow.

Bleeds out shame.

Rising on the shed skins of the past,

He stands true.

Naked.

Bared to the bone.

Tissue and ligament clinging to him.

He takes a step.

Another.

And another.

Now he runs.

The shadows are ending.

And he runs faster.

He bursts free.

He looks out to the horizon.

The sun is now rising.

He is a new man.

Freed,

From the ancient oppressors,

Who bound him in the shadows.

The sun now bears witness,

To the birth of a new man.

On the dawn of a new day.

Thank you! I do quite enjoy watching Kakashi endlessly sprint on my dashboard ^_^ (I can't take credit for the sprite itself, but I animated it myself.)
