observational pony study

I converted a Celestia toy into a still-life study object.
I achieved this by pulling/carving off her mane and tail... filled in the holes/scuffs with wood caulk. Sealed with acrylic gesso. Primed. Then spray-painted white. Plenty of sanding in-between as well (to keep the surface as smooth as possible).

Then I set her against a black background, with one light source coming from above her.

Great exercise (and more interesting than a plain old sphere).

Crappy photo again.
Can't find my camera charger....

9" x 12"
Oil on canvas board.
Paint: mars black, titanium white, naples yellow, ultramarine blue.

I love how you went out of your way to make what would normally be a boring study into something you could put passion into.

Despite the simplicity, it's still amazing.

Something so simple can be so beautiful. In this unusual, eerie way.

That is great. I've always been jealous of people who can recreate such great lighting on canvas or paper.

This is incredible. Makes me want to do something similar for my art class and one of the dozen-odd pony toys we've got floating around the house.

well done, reminds me of my shading project, I threw in my mcdonalds fluttershy, but it didn't come out nearly as well as this. [link]

i really like this. im normally not one for these kind of pics, but this is awesome. its so plain, yet still holds the elegance of celestia. and the lone light add a more mysterious, almost saddening tone to it, but again, the elegance and how smooth she looks keeps it from being so depressing. sad, but not super depressing.
wonderful job!!! just wonderful.. :D
