Art in its many forms has been a passion of mine since childhood. Growing up I was always encouraged to pursue the hobbies that brought me happiness. But once I became a parent, and then a single parent, my hobby took a back seat along with many other things to my being a parent first. Now that my daughter is in High School I am finding myself single with lots of free time on my hands. That free time has allowed me to focus on one of the few things left in this world that brings me happiness, my artwork.
Corvus 6 Designs at its very core is the culmination of years spent drawing and bringing to life the visions and voices within my head. I have been told by friends and family over the years that I have a very twisted mind and it shows in my artwork. I have always leaned more towards the darker side of life and the world around us. Even my nickname ‘Corvus 6’ is a play on life and death. Corvus is from the scientific name for a crow or raven. The crow/raven is a sign of death in certain cultures. Six is a perfect number and the day that the ‘catholic/christian god’ supposedly created life. As with the death of man being turned back to ash, new life springs forth from his ash…from death, life. So in essence art is life or creation from death or nothing.
Just as a side note, and to serve as a warning…I am not by any means a religious person. In fact I mock most if not all religions. Mainly because people follow blindly without bothering to open their eyes and learn about as much of this world as they can. Art can be both of great beauty and of great horror, but unless you are open-minded to everything in this world, you will only see the line separating the two. There is at least one piece so far in my gallery that will upset the hard-core religious types, ‘Christ and Sodomy’, with the Devil sodomizing Christ. I make no apologies for this piece, but it was something that I for years envisioned and finally created. It is meant as a commentary or a funny jab at our life and times…basically ‘we are all f***ed, and there is no one left to save us’.
Since the winter of 2008/2009, I have worked off and on with some of the local bands in the Spokane, WA. music scene. Designing logos, band names, t-shirts, album art, web graphics (before MySpace killed customized pages), flyers, and even video art. Originally, this all started with the band ObzeRve since I am close friends with the singer/founder of the band. Unfortunately, in mid 2010, ObzeRve has gone on permanent hiatus do to creative differences and the lack of experienced replacement musicians.
Since the disbanding of ObzeRve I have been focusing more on my personal artwork and picking up the occasional side project with any band interested in having me work on a t-shirt design for them. But for the most part I am focusing on bring some of my more demented creations to life.
Currently, my favorite design style is graphic illustration combined with the stippling technique. I work mostly with mechanical pencils on Bristol Smooth paper stock followed up with inking the design with Micron pens. From there the design gets scanned and cleaned up digitally and then colored. I am currently saving up to finally move to a Wacom Cintiq tablet. With any luck that will be my birthday present to myself in 2012.
Now that you have a little background on me and what I am about, please enjoy my gallery of artwork. I do work on commissioned pieces. Please feel free to contact me here on DeviantArt to discuss commissioning a design.
